Rambling but friendly

A rather rambling hotel, made by joining several older houses (which, in my opinion, adds substantial interest). There is a lift, but I loathe them so it took me a while to get my bearings and find my way around.

But it is a good place to base yourself. The hotel is on T'Zand, a huge square (I believe there was once a railway station there, to give you an idea of its size) which is about 5 minutes walk from the central Markt. One side of the square is lined with cafes/restaurants and bars so it's absolutely brilliant for wandering back to the hotel after an exhausting day and not having to go far to eat. T'Putje itself has a very good reputation for food, but is a little outside my price range.

My room was on the third floor, clean and simple, with mini-bar, safe, tiny telly, en-suite and rather lovely views over red-tiled rooftops. It was free of traffic noise (in fact the whole hotel is, as it is on a little-used side-road and far enough away from the busier main road for noise to be dulled). However, there are quite a lot of bells and, more intrusively, very enthusiastic kitchen staff who were washing-up late into the night. Ear-plugs were useful for me, and if you are at the front I think noise from the many al fresco diners might be an irritant.

One or two of the rooms have a balcony/terrace.

Breakfast was good, with a choice of cold meats/cheese/yoghurts/pastries/bread etc and hot foods too (eggs, bacon and so on).

Staff were efficient and courteous.

I'd be happy to stay there again.

Unique Quality: Finding the hotel requires more detailed instructions than the VT box will allow, so here they are:

Walk straight out of the station, cross the main road, turn and cross left. Walk through the pleasant canal-side park, follow the signs to 'tourist information' then take the right-hand path when you get to the statue of Prince Albert on his horse. Follow this and T'Putje is straight in front of you, on the right of the huge (and ugly, imo) concert hall.

Otherwise, like me, you may spend an extra 10 minutes walking all round T'Zand because you decided to walk the wrong way when you hit the square! :-)

Great little place!

I stay at the Putje only 1 night. The rooms are nicely sized and clean with VERY friendly and helpful staff. It's conveniently located to shops, restaurants, bus station, and train station. If you're up for it, it's only a 15 minute walk from the train station.

Unique Quality: BIG bathrooms! But a little noisy. Could have just been the location of my room. I wear ear-plugs to sleep while traveling, so it wasn't too annoying. Still worth it for the money.
