Re: Hotel Loreto

by revontulet

I haven't stayed that hotel but I stayed at "Voermanshuys Hotel". It's located very centrally, Oude Burg 14 8000 Brugge. It is just 1-2 streets behind the market place and Belfry Tower. The hotel dates back to 16th century and family run business and breakfast were satisfied and also the hotel price was reasonable. From hotel, it takes 30 minutes to get to the train station by walk, (10 mn.by bus). I strongly recommend to get lost in the medieval streets of the city. Hope that I gave some useful infos... Greetings from Turkiye... Sibel

Travel Tips for Brugge

Belgian Chocolate

by aah_stone

Being able to walk down a street and finding a chocolate shop. You can go in and buy a selection of chocolates. There are just so many varieties you just have to buy a whole load.

If you are unsure about what a chocolate is then ask and you may be able to try one or peice of one before you buy.

And I can tell you Belgian chocolates are some of the best in the world.

City walks

by myriam_c

Brugge is small enough to explore on foot. The tourist board offers various city walks that you can do on your own by means of a map and a pamphlet with some information on the sites you see underway.

swans

by tompt

A symbol of Bruges is the swan. And you will see them everywhere in the Reie. And there are always plenty around the Minnewater.

A legend about the swans of Bruges goes as folows: In 1488 the people of Bruges had executed one of the town administrators called Pieter Lanchals, his name means long neck. The Lanchals family coat of arms featured a white swan. Maximilian, to whose court the administrator belonged, punished Bruges. The inhabitants had to keep swans on their lakes and canals untill eternity.

Koffie Verkeerd

by steventilly

Introduced to us by Caro (well, to Susan - I stuck with beer usually). This is a milky coffee (more "milk with a little coffee") and the ideal one comes in this striped, layered form. This shows it was made with care and attention - but don';t expect it to always be this way, especially at very busy times.

Packing List

by greebo

During the summer months it can get extremely hot during the day but very cold at night so some warm clothing for the evenings is recommended as most of the resturants and cafes you tend to sit outside. You will need comfortable walking shoes as most of the streets are cobbled and you will find you will do a lot of walking as there is so much to see. An umbrella is needed as I found out to my cost as the weather is very changable and the downpours are sudden and will leave you drenched in minutes. It is easy to find photographic shops in Brugge and the assistants will usually be extremely au fait with cameras etc and what equipment is needed and may even give you tips. Mosquito spray may be needed during the summer months as mosquitos can breed in the canel and you may get bitten.
