A friend of mine and I are planning on going to Brugge tomorrow !! And while going through the travel tips etc, I realised that the boat trips do not operate in December :( Is there ANY way of getting hold of one? I saw the movie "In Brugge" and was really fascinated with the boat ride - given they also did it around Christmas even though its for a moviw, but still - PLEASE lemme know if there is ANY absolutely ANY way of doing a boat trip.
I hope the Belfry is at least open during December for climbing, because the one in Gent was closed. :(
Let me know of other off the beaten track places that you would suggest - :)

The canal boats operate normally mid-March to mid-October, then during the winter they come out at weekends IF THE WEATHER IS FINE! You can climb the belfry though, whatever the weather: http://www.visit-bruges.be/belfry-of-bruges/belfry-of-bruges.html
The paddle steamer to Damme departs in the winter "on request", you could always phone them and ask whether by any chance they have a group booking for a date when you are there: http://www.bootdammebrugge.be/index_e.html
I should warn you though that it's a pretty boring ride until you reach Damme itself, the countryside is dead flat - as you might expect!
To be honest, I'd rather take the bus to Damme...it is a pretty boring journey by boat. You could even walk one way if the weather is pleasant: it's only 7 km from Brugge.

Can't remember the boat trip in the film, but it's possible that you'll still be able to take one around the city during December..depends on the number of visitors, I suspect. Ask at your hotel.
Whether you manage a boat trip or not you'll enjoy your visit. It's alovely place.
because this beautiful day isn't going to last forever. Unless you have your favorite bits recorded for yourself and posterity, right? So here you are, along the canal banks with the Belfort there in the background, having conquered it shortly beforehand. It's a splendid afternoon, you're with one of your best friends, what else could you want? ;-)))
This large square is teeming with many restaurants, pubs/bars, hotels and of course shops selling all sorts of goodies.
We decided to have a great meal here at one of the many restaurants. Its also a great place to meet up with friends.
The half moon has been the symbol of the beer brewing in Bruges.
Bruges has had hundreds of official breweries and a numberous home breweries during its history. Only a few remained.
This half moon, hanging at the entrance of the square of the Gruuthuuse Museum is a reminder of that period.
It is not coincidential that it is hanging there: Gruuthuuse, the word comes from gruut, a ingredient that was used for beer brewing before the hop became fashionable.
The family who had monopoly over the commerce and handling of Gruut built the big house Gruuthuuse, now museum. Still a few breweries left!

Chocolate, along with Beer seems to be universal in Belgium, but here in Brugge, we found what I guess would be the ultimate "mens" chocolate candy....and you could get them in sizes ranging from C to D and they even had the "mini's" before any implants were done.
We rented a tandem and cycled the back streets of Brugge. Needless to say we had a great fun time and explored many streets we would never have walked HIre a tandem or the conventional one seater if you prefer!
