Was at the place about 10 years ago - hated it with a passion. So many big dogs that planted their bombs right in the middle of the runway and that had no discipline. My brother was 4 then, you couldn't turn around for one second without worrying about him and those dogs. He got frequently run over and had food (sandwiches) stolen from him more than once in the week we stayed.
I hope it changed this then, if not I cannot recommend the place to people with a small child.
Travel Tips for De Panne
Sand yachting
by filipdebont
More then hundred years ago, sand yachting became a sport. Some creative minds dreamed about using the wind as a source of energy to move across land.
Take the combination of a car, a sail and the wind, and you have a sailing car.
Pioneers of this remarkable sport were the brothers Andre and Benjamin Dumont, who drove with their first sailing cars in De Panne and in Middelkerke.
As De Panne has the widest beach of the whole Belgium coast, it is surely the cradle of the sand sailing.
Koning Albertplein
by filipdebont
If you continue walking along the Nieuwpoortlaan, you arrive at a big bus stop. And behind this bus stop you find the quiet King Albert square.
It is a nice place to rest. If you stop at this square do not forget to look around, you will discover some beautiful old houses.
Mountain biking
by filipdebont
This is a great area to do some mountain biking. you can try to beat the strong wind while you are mountain biking on the beach, or you can try to climb the dunes.
There are also several cycling routes wich are signposted. Most of them are on the road, so not really off-road. For these routes you can get all information at the local tourist office. a mountain bike
Music from Ecuador
by filipdebont
As I was walking along beach road, I suddenly heard indian music. Curious as I am, I wanted to hear and see more.
It were a group of young indians from Ecuador which were playing native music.
It was kind of coincidence that I encountered this musicians here, as in a dfew weeks I would leave for a roundtrip in Ecuador.
"Oh yes, Ecuador, here I come" was the feeling inside of me.
City Hall
by filipdebont
At the corner of the Zeelaan nr 21 and the Lindelaan you find the City Hall.
In font of the City Hall there is a big rusty anchor. This shows that fishing is one of most important business is over here in De Panne.
