The Leopold I - Esplanade
by filipdebont
When you arrive in De Panne by car, you will arrive certainly at the big roundabout near the city centre. There are plenty of parking places to loose your car, so that you can discover this city on foot.
From this roundabout you have a splendid view over the Leopold I - Esplanade.
Info: Leopold I was the first Belgian King.
This Esplanade was already a unique place in the past. As on the place where stands the Leopold I monument there were four big villas of wealthy families. And during World War I the Royal Family lived here.
These Royal Villas were destroyed during the Second World War and removed in the 50-ties.
In the beginning of the Esplanade there is a big arch construction, which works as a gate, and which makes a visual connection with the Leopold I monument.
Beach Cabins
by filipdebont
You find these beach cabins, along the entire length of the Belgium coast.
Mostly these cabins are rented by tourists who stay a certain period at the Flemish Coast.
It can be handy for couples with children, like that they can store the children’s toys in the cabin, or maybe the rubber boat, or the beach seats.
Like this you must not carry all that stuff from your apartment to the beach every day.
It can also be handy if you want to change your clothes.
These cabins can be rented for different periods, from half a day till one month (or more).
Hiking
by filipdebont
Of course this is a great place to do some hiking.
There are several walking trails, they are all marked with colours, some go through the dunes, and others show you the heritage and show you the history of architecture of this coast village.
Of course you also decide to walk along the beach and enjoy the sea, the wind . . . a good pair of shoes
Decorations
by filipdebont
The dresses were beautifully decorated. Also the decoration of the face was very special.
I hardly can wait to leave for my trip to Ecuador. The moment I write this, it is still three weeks to go . . .
2003 Beaufort in De Panne
by filipdebont
2003 Beaufort is an art project near the Belgian coastline. It can be seen in nine cities along the Belgian coast, from De Panne till Knokke Heist.
The name of this art project, 'Beaufort' refers to the essential power you find at the coast, the power of the wind.
But there is more in this name, there is 'fort' which means strong and 'beau' which means beautiful, so a strong and beautiful art project that you can see in Belgium 'Be' at the sea 'eau' which asks for a big imagination 'ufo'.
Besides this art project, it is nice to visit De Panne. Most of the visitors of De Panne speak French, of course because it is very near the border with France. In De Panne the beach is very wide, so a good location for active sports like hiking, mountain biking and sand yachting.
