Wonderful Country Hideout....
The service was good, the ambiance was something more cottage like...peaceful and a great restaurant...set about four kilometers outside of the city limits of Ieper...
My stay was three nights...I could easily have stayed longer as I found this hotel to be a peaceful place to hang out at...
The owner took a personal interest in the fact that I was Canadian and told me stories of her journeys in British Columbia...a place that I have lived and explored.I can always talk about my adventures in B.C. so I enjoyed this...
Unique Quality: The property is as mentioned situated in a country setting with a roadway close by...no not noisey at night at all..Its landscaped nicely and is surrounded by lush green fields...adjacent to the Hooge Crater Museum and close by to the Hooge Crater Cemetery. There is also next door an amusement park that actually was NOT a factor affecting my comfort level.
Every morning I was awakened by singing birds and the room I stayed in had a large bathtub which I filled with steaming hot water to soak away the day when I returned after walking and exploring...
The breakfast buffet was more than adequate...the usual's....breads,cheeses, fruits, cereals coffee, juice...the dining room was decorated nicely and felt very comfortable...
The clientele were friendly..a couple of repeat customers...one in particular had stayed there more than twelve times...
This building was built in the 1920's...the original Kasteelhof 'T Hooghe was at various time held by the Germans and British and was inevitably flattened by bombardment...The whole area around Ieper including Hooge is the setting of many ferocious battles and carnage during the First World War...the setting is stoked in historical events...

Belgian Beer in a great setting
The hotel is in a rural setting a few miles outside of Ypres. Our room was very spacious and looked out over the patio garden. We visited in September while the weather was still warm. Spent a couple of pleasant hours on the front patio sampling the beer of the land. The small dining room where breakfast is served also offers dinner to both guests and locals. The food was very good. Also on the property is a crater formed from cannon fire (I think) during the First World War. The damages to the property have been preserved and there is a walkway with commentary. The hotel is in the midst of many of the cemeteries of American soldiers. From the signs nearby, I'd say this is a favorite American travel destination in Belgium.
Unique Quality: Peaceful, spacious rooms, lovely gardens.

Outside in a old castlefarm and former British HQ
If one is visiting Ieper and wants to stay in a kind of matrimony with the history that happened here, one might choose the hotel "Kasteelhof 't Hooghe" (castlefarm the hight). This place used to be an British HQ on the frontline, but was destroyed after the battles that took place. It's situated along the road East, called at the time the road to hell. In the garden few reminders of the first worldwar: a mine crater and a few tranches.
Unique Quality: History and staying combined. Easy to reach and perfect start of a intensive visit of the Ypres Saillant.

Hotel located on historical ground
Nice and cosy hotel, with neat rooms and a beautiful garden.
Unique Quality: The hotel has been constructed on the foundations of the horse stables of the Hooghe castle. Both the castle and the stables were fully destroyed in 1915. It was at the Hooghe that the British had undermined the German trenches and killed several hundreds of German soldiers by detonating the dynamite they had put underneath the trenches.
