Bus tickets in Oostende

by PhillyJohn

We will arrive by train and wonder about a bus pass for two people. We are staying at a hotel some distance from the train so will use the bus frequently. Is there a reduced rate pass avail for multiple rides and how or where do you purchase it. I know the buses do stop at the station.
Also, what bus number goes to Koningenlaan from the staion?
Thanks

You can buy your tickets for the bus/tram at the train station.
Special reduced tickets for:
one day pass: € 5,00
three days pass: € 10,00
five days pass: € 15,00.
These tickets are valid for all transport forms of the public transport company called "DE LIJN", thus for all busses and trams, all over Flanders.
When you buy your ticket on the bus or tram, you will pay a little more, so better buy it at the station.
Depending on where you have to be on the Koninginnelaan, bus 6 or 7 will take you there, or if you have to be right at the beginning of the street (near the seaside) you can take the tram (there is only one).

Thankyou

we will be at studiotel, between Petit Paris and the beach area, so either one may be good.

Actually...I recall walking way out onto the stone-stacked jetty and watching the waves crash over it..thinking how many thousands of Europeans had holiday'd here and had the same feeling of vastness I did looking back toward England.

In Leopold Park, you can admire this beautiful flower clock. It’s flowerbed have a diameter of 9 meters and the big brass pointer (4 meters) covered with gold foil weight 90 kg, the small pointer (3 meters) 70 kg. The clock dates from 1748 and every year the city plant about 15.000 flowers on it. It is a real masterpiece.

mmmmm eating related? I better put it again in the cultural tips !
Along the kay, you can find a lot of these little markets who sell all kinds of fish.
The sport of it is to ask allways the one at the bottom at the last row '-)
You can see this Oostende's lady already is quite experienced.
Just practice enough and you will get there!
For the more advanced you have this variation:
Follow previous instruction, then if the guy finally gets to the one you pointed at, tell him you changed your mind ...

...and run!

Catch your own fish !!!

by tweetycaro

Catch your very own shrimp at sea. You can, on the Crangon, a fully traditionally equipped shrimp trawler.
The technique used to catch the shrimp is board fishing. This technique involves the use of 'side trawlers': nets that have otter boards on the side.
These boards or metal plates keep the net spread open as it moves through the water. It is a trap from which the shrimp cannot escape.

The Crangon departs from a spot near the famous Oostende lighthouse and takes you on a magical trip along the Flemish coastline. On board you get 'hands-on' experience of the traditional way in which Flemish fishermen catch, sort wash and... cook sea shrimp at sea.

It is hard work, but... well worth it. Not only is this a unique opportunity to become one with nature, but helpers are allowed to take home part of the catch free of charge.

A trip on the Crangon takes about three hours.
