Not the place for historians

Oostende has a more urban, modern feel that most of the other towns I visited in Belgium. It obviously has a lot of oversized apartment buildings and offices that have been built in the last fifty years, so if you're coming to Belgium for Old World charms, you might be disappointed here.
The carnival:-)

Me and my friends at The carnival.
Ostend is the carnival city par excellence of the Belgian coast. Each year carnival is celebrated around a different theme (China '95, Rio '96, Hawaii '97, Europe '98).
BCO : Spectacular basketball in Sleuyter Arena !
by Innovator
Spectacular basketball with ex-NBA players or great players from Easter Europe.
You will be surprised of the live atmosphere and tension this brings!
Every 2 weeks you can watch Base Oostende playing at home on Saturday.
It is one of the best basketball teams in Belgium (usually nr 1 or 2) with great players bought from over whole Europe and even from the NBA!
This combined with East European basket players and our local talent makes it worth watching an atmospheric ballgame! 2009 was a difficult season (no playoffs) but we expect a better 2010 with a whole new team.

You cannot miss it arriving at Ostend.
The Mercator Yacht Harbour, the three masted sailing ship 'Mercator',it also contains many yachts.
It is nice to take a walk among the pride of many seaman.
Tati's Jazz Club
by Innovator about Tati's Jazz Club
In a smokey basement, somewhere in Ostend, where the spirit of Marvin Gaye still wanders, the old negro steps up from his table and walks to the old piano on the stage. From then on the mood is his to choose. From the frivolity of Freddie Hubbard's 'Always There' to the intimate 'The Dolphin' by Stan Getz.
Welcome to Tati's Jazz Club. Tati, who originates from Tunesia, reigns his scepter of creativity over this temple of jazz. Unannounced concerts, live jams, a super-csy atmosphere, the big smile of the waitress and Tati's endless optimism, they all contribute to the fact that this is definitely a 'Freestyle' place. Essential. From the casino follow 'de langestraat' past de koekoek, the luna-park, go straight on, on the right you will see the enlighted saxophone if it's dark.
