the mysterious blue line
by tompt
Walking through Roeselare you will encounter a mysterious blue line everywhere.
We asked people on the street but nobody seemed to know about it. Filip told us it was a big picture of a cyclist, which could be seen from the air. But did we believe it........
Tom wanted to, but Gonnie was very very sceptic. When we got home Filips father told us it was a link to all the places Jean-Pierre Monseré visited in his life.
Jean-Pierre Monseré was a cyclist from Roeselare who died in an accident while riding a race. He was only 22. At that time he already was world champion.
This idea was good, but we didn't believe it as the line was entering the cityhall somewhere in the middle, instead of at the door. And it came out the wall of a convent.......
Filip later contacted the local newspaper, and we have to admit: he was right !!
30 years after his accident there was a Jean-Pierre Monseré year and in honor of that they painted this blue bicycle on the streets.
city shield
by tompt
The cityshield in the pavement in front of cityhall. This shield was already in the oldest known seal of Roeselare, dating back to 1309.
The shield of the count of Roeselare was a silver cross at a black background, and is said to come from the patriarchs of the eastern church. The city adopted this shield, before the french revolution it became a double black cross at a silver background.

Ballooning
by filipdebont
I should start that behind our house there is the Sport spark of Rumbeke, with lots of football fields.
So on a sunny Saturday afternoon suddenly we heard a very strange loud noise. We really wondered what that could as we did not see anything happen.
But then after a while, it appeared, it was a big balloon.
Of course there was a lot of space on the sports park to prepare the balloon and to fligh high into the sky.
There are several ballooning companies in the region, and the price for a flight is about 100 euro for a flight.
I have never done this, it is still on my want to do it - list. a big balloon
One of Hitler's drawings
by filipdebont
Of course everyone knows Adolph Hitler from the World War II, but He was also active in the World war I (the Great War), then he still was a corporal.
During this Great War He stayed in Ardooie for a while (7 km from Roeselare).
It is also known that in his free time he loved to draw and to paint.
So this picture shows a reproduction of a drawing made y by Adolph Hitler, He made a drawing of the St Michaels Church of Roeselare.
