Brussels for everyone
by Caroline.N
The food and night life has left a positive and lasting effect on me. There is nothing like relaxing in a restaurant before hitting the town for the night in a club (open til 6/7am). I would warn women that high heals are just too difficult to wear on the cobbeled streets. I insisted on wearing heals all the time but nearly broke them each time I left the hotel. The care-free, safe enviroment of people having a good time.
See the Grand Square,...

See the Grand Square, especially at night. Wander around and eat in a small local place, crowded tables, off the beaten path - food is much better. I had chicken cooked in kriek, a cherry beer. Going to a student bar where lambic beer is served in various sizes of pitchers from small to 10 liters! Lambic beer is unique to Belgium, naturally fermented with yeast from the air, it is kind of flat, semi-sweet, and high in alcohol.
Does Belgians likes waffle?
by kylian74
Yes, It's very belgian! I myself like waffle so much. Availabe in Belgium whole year round.
2 types of waffle; Brussels waffle and Luik waffle. Waffles in different toppings variations like melted warm chocolate, fresh cream, with strawberry ( mostly in summer time), rather plain white powder sugar or brown sugar.
Royal Square and St. James church
by matcrazy1
I walked to the Royal Square where St. James church (look at the picture) and the neo-classical style Royal Castle (Palais Royal) were located. Interesting, impressive architecture although not my favourite in Brussels. Haha, the tower seen on my picture was not compatibile in style to the rest of the buiding - at least in my opinion.
The first castle was built at this place in 11th century and it was castle of Braban dukes. I think it looked more nice that time.
There were buildings of Museum of Ancient Art and the Museum of Modern Art on Royal Square there - I didn't visit them :-(.

Last glimpse of the river Senne
by irisbe
At Rue des Riches Claires/Rijke Klaren straat, very near the Anspachlaan, you will find a quite inner court with a few establishments where you can stop for a drink.
It is so quiet, away from the busy crowded Anspachlaan.
It is here that if you walk to the end of the little square and you look in the corner, eventually you take the steps down, that you will witness a rare glimpse of what is left of the surface of the Senne, the river where Brussels was settled.
The rest of the river is covered up because I think of hygienic reasons.
Every time I look to the little bit of water floating here I wonder if this is really the Senne or if we are getting fooled `-)
