Weather Reporter Needed!

by JohnnySpangles

Hi,
I'm planning a weekend road trip on Saturday 4th Dec from Calais to Eindhoven, then Eindhoven to The Hague on Sunday 5th Dec then back to Calais in the evening. Brussels is sort of on the way...the long range weather forecast doesn't look good (heavy snow on that route expected on Thursday 2nd Dec!)...Could somebody post me replies on thurs (2nd Dec) and Friday (3rd Dec) as to what the weather is like in the Brussels area...so I can make a decision about cancelling. Many thanks.

I don't know if this will help you, but the BBC has a weather site that tells forecasts up to 5 days ahead.. anywhere in the world. I've used it a lot when travelling, and you know how accurate they are. :-)

The forecast is not so good indeed. But the salt trucks are ready. The roads towards Brussels mostly stay in a rather good condition, unless you travel at night or in the early morning. If you'd decide to go on with your road trip you'll have to count in some extra driving time.

Thanks everybody...decided to postpone the trip this afternoon, PSV Eindhoven are playing on the weekend of 18th Dec so we'll go then instead....hopefully all the bad weather will have gone by then..biggest problem was getting to down to the English Channel...Top marks to Eurotunnel, RAC breakdown insurance and the PSV football club..all of which allowed me to change my travel dates with no charge...nice to know great service still exists!

Visit the Grand Place.

Sitting on a summer morning in the Grand Place having a coffee and watching all the activities around. This is Brussels.
I bought a painting of the buildings in the Grand Place, opposite where we sat. To add to an everlasting memory

The 175-25 Show

by BeChar

"Madame Belgium (175 years) meets Mademoiselle Federalism (25 years) for a tremendous show".

It was July 21st, around 9 pm. The canal-boat "Mademoiselle/Madame" was the symbol of the event and went (carefully) through the crowd, from a hill ("Belgium South") to the lighthouse (down, "Belgium North"). "Seagulls" were distributed, a cloud went out of the boat and later a cake, ...
Surrealism is not new in Belgium ;-)

Park Cinquantenaire

In the building you can see in the background of the fotos are three museums, a weappon museum, a Automobile museum and a museum of arts and history. These beautiful Arcades were constructed in the year 1880 because of 50 years of belgic kingdom. The building seems quite similar to the Berlin Brandenburger Tor.

Take a walk to the Poelaert plein

by irisbe

Take a walk to the Poelaert square, named after the architect Poelaert, who's name you will find back regularly in my tips when it comes to the construction of buildings in Brussels late 1800, early 1900's.

On this square, you will not only find the impressive Court of Justice, but also the rememberance monument of war.

If you walk just to the end of the square, you will have a good view over the area called 'The Marollen', an area, down town of the commong people.

The Poelaert plein is Up town, litterary as it is much higher then the Marollen.
This is one of the reasons why the Court of Justice is build there: so that people from down town - the ragbags, thieves, criminals (that time about the synonyms for poorer people in the eyes of the bourgeoisie) - could look up in full respect to justice and authority.

The second reason why the Palace of Justice is built there is because out of historical reasons. This place used to be hanging hill, where people were executed by hanging.
