bruegel youth hostel, worse hostel ever!

This Bruegel youth hostel is the MOST terrible I ever been too!The have no sense of you being a customer. If you want to feel like you're in a prison, GO THERE! but i'm sure nobody likes that. Basically we were a group of friends staying for a long weekend, but this youth hostel, did RUIN our trip a bit. Because you HAVE to leave the hostel between 10am and 2pm! They basically KICK you OUT! they have a bad time for breakfast 7pm-9pm... SO EARLY ! not a great idea when you're on holidays! they are NOT welcoming at all! And the WORSE, is that they keep changing you of rooms, to make sure you wake up and hand them the keys before 10am.
Anyway, the worse youth hostel I've ever been too!
Aline.

Bruegel - Youth Hostel good place for a rest.

I booked quite late in the day and Brussels is not cheap so was
glad to get a bed for the night under 30 Euros, I Paid 24,20 euro
for a bed in a 2 bed bunk room, they said it was the price for
sharing but if your lucky they won`t stick another person in the room
if your alone and no one else checks in for the same deal.

135 beds

22 rooms with 2 beds
#

1 room with 3 beds
#

Unique Quality:
A nice location and a 10 minute walk from “Gare Central – Centraal Station”. in a new building within walking distance from one of Europe's finest urban views, Brussels' magnificent central square, Grand Place.
Warning, when eating the free YH breakfast, all food and drinks are put away not a second later than 9 o`clock. 1 minute after 9, u won`t even get a coffee refill or a cornflake.

WARNING about directions....
there aren`t many locals to offer directions and even the locals not to clued up on directions.

If only life imitated art

This YHA hostel is named after the great Flemish painter Bruegel...and like I said in the intro, 'if only life imitated art' then this place might be worth staying at!
The Good: The location is actually really good. Close to Gare du Midi, in the street behind Place du Petit Sablon, and within 10 minutes walk of Grand Place.
The Bad: Breakfast consists of bread with butter, jam, or cheese. Yes, I know this is a typical YHA breakfast, but this is one of the lowest-end ones I've had. When asking the receptionist for a recommendation about where to get a typical Brussels dinner, her response was 'Here at the hostel'. There is lockout from 10-2, conveniently not mentioned on the website.
The Ugly: No soap dispensers in the washrooms?!? Push-button showers that turn off every 30 seconds and then require 15 seconds of fiddling to get the temperature bearable.
In short, would I stay here again? Not a chance.

Low budget travelers

At the Heilig Geeststraat, 2, nearby the Keizerslaan/Boulevard de l'empereur, you find the youth Hostel Bruegel.

Unique Quality: I haven't stayed there, being a local, but it is good situated, not far from the historical centre, not far frm the Sablon, not far from the Marollen with all the cheaper restaurants.

Close to the Central Station

Being Belgian, I never actually stayed there, but heard some good critics from foreign travellers.

Unique Quality: Easy access from the Central Station, good access to metro or bus.
You can choose between individual, double or group rooms.
There's a bar and a restaurant.
24 hours access

Stinky Hostel

Maybe I just had bad luck, but my stay here has been awful. The toilet was extremely stinky, so bad that I couldnt sleep because of the smell penetrating even my room which was a few rooms away. Apparantly they had taped all the ventilation holes in the toilet (???!!?!!)Those have been some of the most awful nights in my life, definetely. The rest of the hostel is quite clean though.

I hope they have improved this..

Youth Hostel

The hostel is conveniently located not too far from Grand Place. I think to walk there will take about 10-15 minutes. The hostel is very cheap. Rate is already from 12.50 EUR in a 12 persons dorm, including breakfast and sheets!! The negative thing about the hostel is that there is a 1am curfew!
