A modest but satisfying place to stay

I chose this hotel based on the convenience of the location both for arrival from the airport and walking visits to the city, and its relatively low price among the hotels available for internet reservations. The price we paid (60 Euros for a double including tax and breakfast) was attractive. The standard approved prices are higher.

Although the street front of the hotel and the lack of view should be noted, the lobby and general facilities were attractive and of European style. The staff was friendly and efficient. The morning breakfast buffet was fine and served in a pleasant dinning room. Our room was clean and thoroughly adequate.

Unique Quality: Perhaps, compared to other places listed on the internet the outstanding feature of this hotel was that the price did not lead us to a hotel of low value for the money spent. Nearby I saw a hotel with a room price of less than 40 Euros posted in the window but I did not check out whether that was or was not for two people and included taxes and breakfast. Also in Midi area of the city I saw some seedier places apparently not available on the internet with the promise of lower prices. Frankly, I was quite satisfied with the Hotel des Colones and would not consider a change even for a longer stay.

Post script: By the way the cost of a private room for two at the Sleepwell Hostel is also 60 Euros.

Hotels for families

by rlg2706

I will be travelling through Belgium in April while en route to Holland. I will be travelling with my husband and 3 children aged between 7 and 12. We would like to stay in or around Brussels for 2 nights. Can anybody recommend a hotel which offers family rooms in this area? Many thanks for your help...

You can also try Hotel des Colonies (www.hotel-des-colonies.com/). It is a short walking distance from la Gare du Nord and you can easily access the Grand Place from there. Because it is not right in the middle prices tend to be lower and I find their rooms to be bigger than elsewhere. I have stayed there many times and have always been pleased
