Nice Hotel Near Grand Place

Hotel Opera is only a few minutes walk from Grand Place. It is a fairly standard American type hotel. Our room was very large by European standards. The room was clean and tastefully decorated, though maybe lacking real character. Our private bathroom was also large and bright and clean. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was an excellent place for me to get my morning fill on lots free coffee! There were assorted breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, cereal, tea and of course coffee. Our only complaint about the room was that we were facing the street and the Drug Opera across the street and it was extremely noisy. There was noise from the Drug Opera until about 2 or 3am and then there was the trash truck every night. Now that we look back on it, it is really comical all the noise that kept us awake half the night, however, at the time, it was just incredibly frustrating. We will probably stay in this hotel again, but we will be sure to ask for a quiet, inside room next time.

Be sure to eat at t'Kelderke at Grand Place 15. It is fabulous! Great food and great 16th century atmosphere.
Chez Leon is on Rue des Bouchers about a block from the hotel, they also have good mussels and beer.

The train to Brugges is only about an hour and is well worth it. Brugges is really incredible.

Unique Quality: Great, safe location. Only a few blocks from Grand Place.

Hotel Opera - Budget Choice for Spring or Fall

Hotel Opera is located about three blocks from Grand Place. It's a small older hotel. Rooms are very small but also clean and well decorated. It's a great budget choice. Breakfast is included and is very deliscious. Service from the front desk is OK. Overall, they are not very helpful, but neither are they rude - just passive. They won't go out of their way for you.

I recommend this place for off season because the rooms are not air conditioned. And, the building is wedged in among several older structure. Therefore, air circulation is poor. Even opening a window will not cool you off in the middle of a summer night. However, if temperatures are not a problem, this place is a great choice. Also, for gay folks - this hotel is just three blocks from several gay bars and a couple gay restaurants.

Unique Quality: Terrific location, good breakfast, great price.
