BRUSSELS TO PARIS TRAIN
by Camellia36
I find a fare of $48AUD Brussels to Paris through raileurope.com.au for a May date plus their booking fee and postage. Does anyone think I could get that price if I went along to a station in Brussels a couple of days before my travelling date.

Hi
I doubt it. Usually the best deals are the ones you book some time in advance, and it seems unlikely that you'd be able to get a similar deal by just pitching up a couple of days in advance. Quite apart from anything else, if you already have your ticket, it's one thing less that you have to worry about, so my advice would be to get it sorted out before you go so that you can concentrate on enjoying your time in Brussels!
Regards
Cathy

Agree with Cathy. 48 AUS$ seems pretty cheap.

I would book the train directly through the operator:
www.thalys.com.
(Just choose "Belgium" as your country, and English as language)
You can book there and print the ticket out yourself.
They do have some pretty cheap deals you can buy in advance.
Cheapest fare currently available is 25, euro, which is about 33, AUD, and booking online on www.thalys.com means no extra booking fee or delivery charge...
(If you don't see a cheap fare for the time you want to travel, look at a few earlier or later trains. There are about 28 departures a day on that route).

If I were a betting man I would bet against it. Reservations can be made up 120 days before the travel date. As the date gets closer and fewer seats are avaiable the price goes up. Is it unheard of for some last minute seats to be sold at a discount? No --- but more than likely they will increase. It all depends on if you feel lucky. My first impression is you have a pretty reasonable price quote. I just booked a trip Brussels to London for May directly through Eurostar and do not pay any booking fee or postage. I got a price as low as 44 euro off peak and 176 top.

try out the chocolates & beer.
The choice of both is just amazing - not too good for the waistline but they taste really good & you're on holidays so go on & spoil yourself!!
The bars on the Grand Place are pretty pricey but it's worth having at least one beer there so that you can sit outside, soak up the atmosphere & people watch.

Brussels Cathedral, a large impressive building. The interior is beautiful however respecting the wishes of the church I did not take any photographs of the interior. There are displays inside of the pope's visit. Also many of the more influential family had their own pews which are richly decorated. You can also see the foundations where a much older building stood.
If You've Got A Bit Of Time Between Trains At Midi
by johngayton
...these bars are worth popping into!
There's a little row of modern terraced bars on the plaza outside the Eurostar arrivals at Midi station. If you are heading elsewhere by train or bus and have a bit of time between connections then drop by. You'll find prices very reasonable (1.50 Euro for a coffee, less than 3 Euro for a beer), service friendly and ashtrays on the tables inside and out!!
They also serve what looks like OK food, and once again at reasonable prices.
A small warning though - if you are tight timewise for your connections order at the bar!

The art Museum not only has astonishing piece of art but it also has some overwhelming piece of art outside. This sculpture outside Museum was big and worth standing up there and gaze the beauty of it.

MANNEKEN PIS...A symbol of irreverence to some, this label of a little boy urinating is seen as vulgar by the Ohio liquor control agency, which wants it banned.
'Pis, this is bad taste' says this article which appeared in the Singapore newspaper, 'The Straits Times' on 8 April 2000.
The US state of Ohio is banning a Belgian white ale because the label features Brussels' famous statue of a boy urinating, Manneken Pis, the Brussels newspaper Le Soir reported.
The Ohio liquor control agency said no to the brew - also named Manneken Pis - because it runs afoul of a state law that prohibits images deemed 'grotesque or in bad taste'' the French-language newspaper said.
'A little boy urinating: that's vulgar. Add to that, the name, the yellow tint of the label, and the product which suggests the color of urine...It's gross' the agency's spokesman Patty Haskins was quoted as telling Le Soir's New York correspondent.
Manneken Pis the statuette has been doing his thing on a street corner in old Brussels since the 17th century, much to the delight of tourists and Belgians who see it as symbol of irreverence.
