Handy
Usual high Ibis standards. 79 euro plus extra for breakfast [ Fri, Sat, Sun ] , rest of week is 140 euro. Handy for Gare Midi for Eurostar and metro to rest of Brussels. Exit from station is Rue d"Angleterre. 24 hour reception..

Just out of Gare du Midi
Ibis is Ibis, you get what you pay.
I like Ibis Gare du Midi, very close to the TGV, you can wake up later when you have to take an early train.
Rooms are quite bigger than other Ibis.
Unique Quality: 150m walking from TGV, Thalys or Eurostar.
Unfortunately, at night, it is better to stay inside. The present area is not fully safe and there is nothing else but some nightshops. Forget about the restaurants and snacks around, really bad food

Directly across from the Gare Midi / train station
This newer IBIS is better than most as far as room appointments and furnishings. If you are taking the EUROSTAR or Thalys for example, this is a good location. We stayed here in 2003 and the immediate area wasn't the best, though there was a lot of rebuilding going on. The only reason we weren't satisfied was the immediate area, the hotel was quite good.
Unique Quality: Location at the entrance to Gare Midi.

good hotel,shame about the area
The Ibis Hotel once inside operates as any good hotel should,competent staff,clean rooms decent tv,a bar and food on request etc.
The hotel operates the plastic card key system for the lift and your room as is increasingly the case these days.
During my stay I had no problems whatsoever with communicating with the staff who all spoke good english and came across as happy to deal with us poor old English only types with a smile even if they are doing it 50 times a day.
One negative aspect for such a decent hotel is its location,whilst being slap bang outside Gare Du Midi is great for the train(no taxis needed)it is unfortunate to note the hotel is surrounded by derelict buildings and urban blight in all directions.
My way to counter this was to go direct to the Metro every day to avoid getting lost and ?.
Unique Quality: Standard stuff really,a good solid hotel that does what it says on the tin.

The Ibis Hotel
We arrived late on the Eurostar. We were told the hotel was right opposite the station. Well that depends on which exit you take. If you are staying at the Ibis there are signs all over the station foyer with big arrows pointing to the Ibis hotel. It would be really useful and much quicker for you to follow them if you are staying there. We didn't, but we found it eventually.
The hotel staff were far more interested in each other than guests arriving late. We were too late for food. BUT they will do these pizza things all night if you want one?? We didn't so we just had a drink at the bar and then went up to catch some zzzzeeeees as our train to Arnhem was leaving early in the morning.
It was a lovely room with a view looking out onto what must be some of the poorest and most rundown housing in Brussels. It had an ensuite bathroom and tv and .... well that's it really. It was clean and comfortable.
Unique Quality: It's near the station.

Great quality, reasonably priced, suspect area.
If you are travelling by train, I would recommend this hotel, its just a few hundred metres from the station. It is a spacious, well staffed hotel with bar. Which is why it looks so out of place being surrounded by derelict buildings left half demolited, and in an area best described as dodgy. If you are not bothered about getting a taxi into the town centre to start your exploration then this is as good if not better than most. At dec 03 a twin/ double was about 75 euros.
