Perfect location!
Stayed at the Ibis for a quick 3 night stay in Brussels and it was perfect! The room was tight, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the en suite bathroom was large and well-lit. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had no complaints of noise - either in the hotel or from the street. In fact, I was quite well-rested the whole weekend. The breakfast (included in our price) provided a lot of options - cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, toast. Nothing special, but certainly sufficient. Best of all, breakfast was open from 6a-12p. If you want to skip breakfast, the hotel is off a small square that is surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Finally, the location of the hotel could not be better - just a short block or 2 from the Grand Place and just down the hill from Brussels Central Station. Very, very convenient! It is a quick 20 min. express train ride to/from Brussels airport or 1 hr. to Brugges.
Unique Quality: A block or 2 in either direction will take you to Central Station or Grand Place.

Nice hotel - BAD ACCOUNTING STAFF
Have stayed in this hotel every November for the last 5 years. Great location for business and tourist, low price and satisfactory room. However, last November the staff charged my room and somebody elses room to my credit card. They have been very nice during 3 phone calls and about a dozen E-mails. However, IT IS NOW MARCH AND I DON'T HAVE MY MONEY BACK. Based on their poor attention to accounting and customers, I recommend that you stay away from this organization.
Unique Quality: They have a unique way to double charge their customers.

Great Value For Money
This was the first time we had stayed at an Ibis Hotel and we both enjoyed our stay. We had booked another hotel the first week of September but on arrival we found the room to be totally unacceptable and had to find another hotel.
The Ibis was nearby and they had a room for 2 nights which we immediately accepted. Our room was recently renovated, freshly painted with new floor coverings and a near new bathroom. The room was clean and although without any luxury items it was very satisfactory.
The breakfast was self serve on the ground floor and finished promptly at 10am. Room cost including breakfast for 2 persons was Euro 139 per night.
The hotel is 5 minutes walk to Central Rail and 3 minutes walk to Grand Place.

Cheap central accomodation
Good quality beds, decent size room, no noise from room next door. At 79 euros for the room when booked ahead, this was a very good deal.
Automatic lockers will cost you 2 euros if you want to leave your luggage for the day, that is a bit of a shame.
Don't bother with the 12 euros breakfast, just get a pain au chocolat or gauffre in a nearby boulangerie.
Unique Quality: Could not be more central.
Easy to book on the net if you want a double bed. If you want to book one of teh few twin rooms, you will have to ring.
Decent bar with decently priced Belgian beers.

In the very centre of Brussels
Ibis Grand Place is the most expensive Ibis of Belgium, you may even pay more than in some Novotels.
Excellent situation.
It is better to make reservation because it is very often full.
Unique Quality: 200m from Grand Place

Ideal location
You know what to expect with Ibis, and this is no different. Reliable facilities, but no frills.
Apart from the brilliant location just off Grand Place and 2 minutes from Central Station (so easy for trains and airport).
Unique Quality: Location, location, location!

Good location from the train station, Grand Place
Good location a short walk from Grand Place and restaurants. Like most IBIS hotels it was clean and the rooms were quite simple and basic.
Unique Quality: Location. Actually the IBIS Brussels Center Gare Midi is appointed a lot better than this one but, here it is location. That is unless you are taking the EUROSTAR or Thalys for example, then the Ibis Brussels Centre Gare Midi is a good location too.

Great location, comfortable stay
With Grand Place being the 'in' spot in Brussels, the Ibis Hotel there couldn't be better placed. It has underground car parking, fresh, clean rooms, a decent bar and food service in its foyer and good service. The price indication below is for a twin room. (It was €109 including breakfast in April 2005)
Unique Quality: A few yards from Grand Place

Hotel chain
I haven't stayed in the Ibis in Brussels (only the ones in Antwerp and Hasselt) but I suppose that basically they are the same.
Of course a lot depends on the staff and management.
My sister has worked for Ibis for many years.
Unique Quality: This hotel is at a jump from the Central Station and another jump from the Grand Place.
It is just next to the Spanish Square.
The location is excellent.

Ibis off Grand Place
About £ 80 Ir (breakfast is extra)
Unique Quality: Usual Ibis fare. Clean, comfortable, reliable and dependable. As always rooms are a little small.
Nice bar just off the foyer with an outstanding selection of beers for an hotel (you couldn’t expect anything less in Belgium). Breakfast was fine but apart from boiled eggs there was nothing hot.
Location here is everything. You couldn’t look for or find better. It is on the Place d'Espagne 150M from the Grand Place. And about 100m from Gare Centrale
There is another Ibis in central Brussels called “Ibis Brussels City” but I think this one has a better location.
Popular Hotel. Book well in advance.

Re: Overnight in Brussels
Whilst you are waiting for specific recommendations look at www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com The vast majority of European hostels are listed on one or both sites.
Re: Overnight in Brussels
There are plenty of cheap hotels around Gare du Midi/Zuid station, but 'm not sure I would want lo live there.
Re: Overnight in Brussels
But for 24 hours it would be perfectly ok, imo.
Re: Overnight in Brussels
@indianpacific: according to all of your contributions on VT I can not take your tip as realible.
Near Zuidstation Southstation there are good/payable hotels.
Take Ibis Brussels Gare du Midi, walking distance from the trainstation, approx. 5 minutes, and you have good hotel.
Have a nice time in Brussels

That's your problem. Do you have a catalogue of what all the VT members answer? Are my tips so bloody interesting to you? I can't recall any of your answers.
Re: Overnight in Brussels
Hi cvt,
Where do you need to be close to? As it's just 24 hours you may like to be closer to a major train station.
I stayed at Centre Van Gogh (CHAB) Hostel near Gare du Nord. It wasn't the cleanest but the rooms were warm with a sink in and it was relativley cheap. A bed in an 8-10 dorm is €18.50.
