Great architecture, wide open streets and shops
by LizC
Walk around town, it's such a pleasure walking in Brussels, with all the grand and awesome buildings, endless world class shops, galleries and restaurants, and lots of musicians playing different instruments day and night on street corners. Greatest city overall
About chocolate 2...
by melissa_bel
If you don't want to blow your budget, may I recommend Cote d'Or. It is owned by a Swiss company now but the quality is just as good and they have so many varieties it's hard to choose from (I personally love their Advocaat-filled dark chocolate bar). You can find them in the touristic area at the Delhaize grocery store near the Bourse or at the GB store in the City 2 mall. Don't buy them at the many little stores you see in the centre, they are overpriced. Go to a real grocery store!
There are also a lot of other brands bit unfortunately, I can't comment on them as I have never tried them. Wittamer is quite renowned (shop and cafe both on the Place du Grand Sablon), Mary Chocolatier is on 73, Rue Royale (you can order her pralines online at http://www.marychoc.com/.)! Seems like president Bush went out of his way to get some there when he was in Brussels.
Now... I REALLY need chocolate! Relative to chocolate? I was going back home from school and finally decided to stop at Jeff de Bruges on rue de l'Etuve (Manneken Pis' street) and got a bag of butter cream praliné-filled dark chocolate pralines. As it melted in my mouth,I stopped on my track... It was so damn good! I assume I must have had a "gustative orgasm". But to my horror, the store closed and I dscovered that "Jeff" who's said to be from Bruges is in fact from France and they closed all of their stores in Belgium.
Parc royal - part 3 - a stonemason's toolkit
by GillianMcLaughlin
Aside from reinstalling the fountains, recent renovations have replaced a number of paths in the Parc royal, that featured in the early layout. The paths, viewed from above, create a number of triangles, axes and rectangles... "nothing exciting there" I hear you chorus... hold that thought for a moment.
I'd just like to take you for a walk round so that you really appreciate the quantity, quality and settings of the statues that are installed in this park... in the main they recall mythical characters, and over the centuries they have been begged, borrowed and stolen from around Brussels and beyond... they really are something. This cherub is one of two that guard one of the main entrances on the palace end of the park.. cute, isn't he? OK back to those paths. If you could view them from above, they depict the entire tool bag of the stone mason: compasses, mallet, square rule, trowel, ruler, level, scissors and plumbline.
You don't believe me, do you?
Well, aside from the fact that my uncle was a stone mason by trade, let me also point you in the direction of a website that tells all ... have fun.

Since 1997 the dome was opened for the visitors and you can climb up to the top (lift is available) to enjoy fantastic views of the city. As far as I remember it costed EUR 2 but you have unbelievable impressions.
LE CORBEAU estaminet
by LysDor
Here are some other worth to try Estaminet places:
1. LE CORBEAU (The Raven)
This Estaminet is well known for its special glass called: *Chevalier*! It is a half meter high glass that contents 1 LITRE of beer of your choice (3 X 33cl), and requires a certain dexterity if you want to avoid a faceful when drinking :->.
LAUGH GUARANTED!!
The music gets louder and the customers rowdier as the evening wears on, and if you've always wanted to stand on a table and sing pop songs with young Belgians on a Saturday night, the opportunity may well present itself here.
