Does the NH = Not Heated?

The standard room was very well appointed with all the usual stuff you would expect from a medium range hotel. It is also very well located being only 10 mins max walk from the Grand Place. The breakfast was very good but I couldn't help feeling that it was all too busy and confined.

If you visit in the winter make sure that you have lots of thick clothing. The heating in our two rooms was not working although apparently we could have asked for extra room heaters. (We only discovered this when paying the bill). The central part of the hotel feels warm but as you walk down the corridor to the bedroom area one can feel the temperature dropping. The heating controls in our two rooms were set to maximum but clearly were ineffective as we both felt cold particularly in the bath rooms - luckily we didn't spend long in the hotel. I'll not be going back.

Unique Quality: The views from the ninth floor where the breakfast room is located are interesting but not particularly stunning or beautiful as it just overlooks lots of rooftops and office buildings.

  • A very comfortable hotel in central Brussels

I would thoroughly recommend the NH Atlanta, though we found our room (on the street) a little noisy, but we do go to bed early. Breakfast great, and the view from the dining room is lovely. The hotel is centrally located & easy to get to.
I don't know the price in US dollars. In Euros we paid 84 for a double room/night, breakfast was extra.
Careful! breakfast is more expensive in the week than on weekends.

Unique Quality: When we were staying there was a "happy hour" where tapas were free. You can't ask for more than that. The fitness room was really very well equipped.

    Directions: in the Monnaie district.

Good Location, Don't Bring Your Car

I stayed at this hotel over New Year's Eve 2007/2008. My handicap adapted room on 5th floor offered good wheelchair access and was well designed and furnished overall, very comfortable to use. Above standard breakfast -- the breakfast room is located on 9th floor and overlooks the roofs of the city. Staff was friendly and helpful. Excellent location in walking distance to the Grand Place. The only setback was the excessive charge of EUR 25 per day for use of the small indoor car park. The hotel clearly exploits its central location and the lack of available parking lots in the nearby streets. I would stay here again, but when travelling by car, comparison should be made with other hotels taking into account this abusive 25 EUR per day car park charge. Including this charge I payed EUR 100/day for my room. Overall, considering it was New Year's Eve, I do not feel it was unfairly priced.

Directions: The hotel is located on Boulevard Adolphe Max, slightly north of Place de Brouckere

    Excellent value for money

My favourite of all the hotels I've stayed in Brussels. It is centrally located just one block West of Rue Neuve, the shopping street and only 5 minutes walk to the subway station De Brouckere.
The rooms are nicely appointed, good amenities and I like the fact that the hotel is an old building - somehow glass skyscrapers just don't 'fit' with the experience of vacationing in old city in Europe.

The price is also very reasonable - depending on when you stay (summer holiday is expensive) you can get a room for Euro 75. I'd totally recommend this hotel to anyone.

Directions: Boulevard A. Max between St Michielsstraat & Noorddoorgang

    Good location, good value.

I only spent one day in Brussels on my way home to Iceland through London. We were driving and found it somewhat hard to find the hotel. It´s confusing for a newcomer were Adolphe Max Boulevard starts and the other boulevard stops. At last we decided to stop the car and walk and then we found out that we had parked right besides the hotel :) I would suggest bigger logos!

We got an internet-price of about 85 euros a double room. Considering the location and the excellent room that was quite cheap. The hotel has a big boulevard in front of it and a nice shopping street at the back. From the shopping street you can walk to the the downtown which was a very nice experience. The room we stayed in was very nicely decorated, the bed was good and the bathroom very clean and elegant. The guys at the reception were very helpfull and nice.

We didnt have time for the breakfast since we had to leave early but the cost of that was 15 euros per person.

The only problem was a little bit of noise coming from the shopping street (our room faced that side) but thats understandable since it was saturday!

Final tip. If you are on a car-rental, please get directions to the airport from the reception. I thought it was easy and there would be signs everywhere but think again! We got lost for around 45 min. and we were starting to panic! Then luckily I saw an airport shuttle and followed it to the airport, just in time. That was a lucky escape.

I really enjoyed that one day in Brussels and NH Atlanta has a big part of that experience.

    Directions: Downtown Brussels.

This comes in very late, but I will never forget the uncomfortable night (in May 2005) that my husband and I spent at this hotel. On a cold evening there was no heat, just "air" noisily emanating from the wall unit in our room. My biggest complaint is that this hotel advertises a choice of pillows, my nicknames for which are "lumpy," "lumpier," and "extra lumpy." We were so disappointed that we cancelled our second night. Reading all of the recent positive reviews made me want to set the record straight.

We will be back!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Pumpkintoo

Second trip to Brussels with my Mum and we will be back next year with a few of our friends!

- Stayed here in Dec 04 and loved it, the rooms were especially good and so was the breakfast.

We stayed at The Metropole in Dec 05 as we had visited it in 04 and loved the old-world atmosphere and decor whilst enjoying a drink in the lobby ( NH Atlanta does not have this but is only next door.) and decided to book up.

What a mistake! We were really disappointed with the rooms and breakfast so next year we will stay at NH Atlanta again and have drinks at The Metropole.

The location of NH Atlanta is great and I recommend it for a girly weekend. All the shops are nearby and you can pop into one of the many hairdressers for a wash and blow-dry for as little as 22EUROS before you go out !

Great location.

I have stayed at three different hotels in Brussels for business trips, and the NH Atlanta has been the best so far. The location is excellent; it's convenient to the Grand Place and the metro. The rooms and common areas are very clean, and as one other reviewer noted, it's quiet. The breakfast is substantial by European standards; my only complaints are that the scrambled eggs were cold one day and the coffee comes from a self-serve machine like you would expect in a vending machine. That said, the view from the 9th floor where the breakfast room is located is fantastic, and on two occasions, I took my coffee and danish out on the terrace for some fresh air. My experience with the staff was very pleasant, unlike some of the reviews I have read. I was initially booked in a standard room on the east side side overlooking the pedestrian street; and yes, it got quite hot in September, and yes, the chocolates on the pillow did in fact melt as another reviewer had observed. Those rooms are also dreadfully small and I had to unpack my suitcase on the bed for lack of space. However, after I complained to the staff, they rebooked me in a much larger room on the inner ring and it was quite cool. I will definitely stay at the NH Atlanta on my next trip to Brussels.

Wonderful Experience!

I realize that I am a little late to write this review, but I had such pleasant experience in the NH Atlanta that I thought it would be worth sharing it. First, the location is unbeatable! 5 minutes to Grand Place and 2 minutes to a metro. Hotel is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and pubs. Lobby of the hotel is beautiful. Our room was large and very clean with King size bed and very tasteful furniture in a excellent condition. Bathroom was huge and very upscale looking. Fitness area was quite impressive. We really didn't have any complaints and surely will stay there again!

Very Nice Hotel & Excellent Location

by TripAdvisor Member Kiranxxx

We stayed at the NH Atlanta for 2 nights over the weekend. The Hotel was really nice and the loctation itself was great. The rooms were very comfortable and clean.
You had a high street on your door step. All the branded shops such as Zara, C&A, Mango and lots more were about 1 minutes walk from the Hotel.
Also as we went in January the sales were on and the sale in Zara was 10 times better that you get over here, 70% off most items how great is that.
There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance, Mexican, Indian and Pizza Hut accross the road.
The Grand Place was also within a 10 minute walk.
I would definatly return to this hotel but in the summer as it was freezing cold in Jan.
As we booked through Expedia brekkie wasn't included and rather than pay 15 euro's each for hotel breakfast we just used to get crossiants from the local shop. Tea/Coffee making facilities were in the room.
Overall this was a great weekend break.
We did also go to visit the Automium which we went by Metro, this is worth a visiy although it was closed until Feb.

Brussels to Bastogne

by irvbur

I'll be staying at the NH Atlanta Hotel in Brussels in mid November. I will have a free day and would like to take a day trip to Bastogne. I'd appreciate any info on travel time between the 2 cities, approx cost of round trip transportation, and how much time is really needed to see Battle of the Bulge sites, and any other useful tips.
Thanks, Irv

it will be around 3 hours by train, with one overstep to do in Libramont

it will be 17,70 euro/trip in weekdays, 13,60 euro/trip in weekend
battle of the bulge can take some hours, depend how long you like to stay there, so i think, it's a good daytrip.

try the bastogne meat.... delicious with a nice trappist beer!!!

You can do it in a day, I would focus on the Museum and Monument, co-located a couple miles outside of town. Stroll around the town for a little and grab a bite.

You may also consider renting a car to give you more time and flexibility. There are a number of rental agencies in Europe offering daily rentals around 30 euro a day. You'll have to check out the situation in Brussels.

If you have'nt already, check out Band of Brothers miniseries as a prep!
