Supermarkets won't be open on the 25th, I'm not sure about restaurants, but I'm guessing you might find some that are open.

Shops are closed on Christmas Day with the exception of "night shops" and some small supermarkets that also open on Sundays, e.g. the one at Gare du Midi. Most restaurants will also be closed but some bars and cafés are always open, in particular around the Grand' Place, also the Winter Market is still on and there are plenty of stalls selling food, as well as the café by the open-air ice rink next to St. Catherine metro station. So you won't starve.

Travel Tips for Brussels

Not just in Brussels, but anywhere in Belgium, try the fantastic Belgium beers! Even if you are not a beer drinker usually and I certainly wasn't, once tried, always smitten! I tried a 'white beer' first, called Hoogaarden. It's taste was like nothing I had ever tried before and I was well and truly hooked!
Bars in Belgium have menus for their beers! There are so many and it's great fun trying all the different flavours, well as many as you can manage. The lovely clothes and such good quality.

The Grand Place again...

The beautiful La Grande Place (Grant Place)...

It is lined with cafes and restaurants so if you can afford it grab something to eat here and do some people watching. :) It's a nice place to spend a bit of time...

The Horse Parade

by BeChar

175 horses (Belgium celebrates 175 years of independence) out of fibre glass from 5 models (race, rocking, draft, positive or negative silhouette), were decorated by local artists. This initiative is similar to Art & Cows with cows in 2003, but this time horses will stay grouped, to avoid vandalism and to represent a "parade".

The parade started in Bruxelles, Cinquantenaire (June 21st 2005) and will visit Liege, Knokke, Waregem, Antwerpen to finally comme back in Brussels (Monts des Arts). Then some horses will be sold in October during an auction. Many will be kept by sponsors. See www.horseparade.be.

by Pegasus74

Southwest of the Town Hall, at the junction of Rue de l'Etuve/Stoofstraat and Rue du Chene/Eibstraat, stands the city's landmark - the celebrated Manneken Pis, a statue of a urinating boy. According to a legend, this boy was purported to have urinated on a bomb fuse thus saving the Town Hall from terrorists who planned to destroy the building. Today, he pees almost everywhere shamelessly with that boyish stance. And it is no surprise to catch some live performances along the streets as well. Manneken does not wear anything at all, except on holidays when he reluctantly puts on costumes and funky wigs.

Manneken does not perform alone; his female counterpart Jeanneken Pis hides herself at the very end of Getrouwheids alley, smilingly do what her friend won't possibly do. She was caged when I saw her, probably she always is, to avoid harassment.
