Transport info

by worldtraveler12

Hello,

I will be in Brussels for 3 days next week. I will stay at the Crowne Plaza Europa on RUE DE LA LOI 107, Brussels.
Could someone tell me how to get there? I will have no luggage other than a small bag, so I prefer not to get a taxi. Is there a train that goes directly from the airport to within a mile or two of the hotel?
Also, what's the cheapest way to use public transport for 3 days? Is there a day, two-day, or a three-day pass, and where do I buy it from? How much is it? Is there a safe place to withdraw Euros from a cash station at the airport?

Thank you all in advance!

1) You can take the train from below the airport to Gare centrale (€2.60, I think) and change there - buying another ticket for €1.50 - for the metro to Maelbeek or Schuman, your hotel is between the two. Until you get your bearings it would probably be best to get out at Schuman and take the exit marked Résidence Palace (back of the train).
As a matter of fact if you don't mind waiting for a while, you can take a train all the way to Schuman railway station and avoid having to buy a separate metro ticket: get the airport train as before but get off at Gare du Nord and take a train from there to Schuman, station officials will be able to advise you which train and platform at Gare du Nord if you can't identify this from the departure boards. Among possible destinations to look for, for trains that will stop at Schuman, are Louvain-la-Neuve and Luxembourg.
2) You can get a STIB (Brussels city transport, covering buses, trams and metro) 1-day card for €4 and a 3-day pass for €9 (individual tickets otherwise cost €1.50 if bought in advance, €2 if bought on the tram or bus), and you can also get a 10-trip card for €11. All from machines or ticket desks in metro stations and some other places.
3) There is at least 1 ATM at the airport, near the escalators, I think on the departure level.
