Bihac Accommodations and Money

by Nathico

I am considering making a trip to Bihac for a night and had a few questions.

Can anyone recommend accommodations in town, and approximately how expensive they would be? Any great restaurants, cafes, or bars?

Also, will people accept Croatian money there? If not, where could I find an ATM or places to change a little money for a fair rate (I will likely be there on a Saturday/Sunday though)

Thanks

Bihac is a very small town and you can see all in less then half a day. There was a good hotel ("Sunce") in outskirts of the town but it was demolished in the war, I doubt it was reconstructed now.
You'll have to change money, Croatian kuna is not acceptable there.

The university library

When I arrived in Bihac, after a long car trip, the first thing I saw, just in front of the parking area, was the university library.
It is a very new building, as many others in the city, made after the war.

Bihac is famous for its beautiful river Una and nearby waterfalls in Martinbrod. Una is one of the cleanest and most beautiful rivers in Europe, named by the ancient Romans - Una (one and only). River Una offers you unforgettable rafting or kayak descent down the rapids.

Bihać is a small town in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The main sources of employment is wood, food, and textile industries and the town's electric-power plant. The town remained part of the Ottoman Empire until 1878, when the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary was granted control of the region.

It's easy to find Bihac. The town is accessible from many different directions - as the western gate of Bosnia... the crossroads of many ages. You will be delighted with the town of Bihac and its warm hospitality. This mixed town offers you a delicate taste of east and west... a balance only matched by our pristine nature which we cherish so much - our mountains, fresh air and the crystal flowing waters of our beloved UNA river. Una... my beautiful... Once you see the Una river you will never forget her emerald color, rapids and cascades. This beauty, as legend has it, left a Roman legionnaire breathless upon first sight. He uttered " Una / the only one." This unique river has been an inspiration to artists from many generations... it is eternalized by the brush and pen of those who find it so dear.

Once you've stopped to listen for a moment to this natural miracle, you will be as captured by her wonder as the famous poet Skender Kulenovic who said "Beauty, beauty... my eyes too small to see, my lungs to little too breathe.” If you're looking for a relaxing, challenging, or unique experience - come and experience the beauty of Bihac! c

It's really difficult to write a page about Bihac.
Before this trip, I knew this city only for the war in Bosnia in 1992 and all the war images we had from this city.
Nowadays, you can see both re-construction signs and destructions ones, you can see many students in the park but also many UN soldiers walking in the streets, ... It's impossibile to stop thinking about all the awful things happened.
