We stayed two nights at Hostel Miran which we had booked in advance due to a recommendation from VT member SWFC_Fan (Jonathan). Hostel Miran is actually situated in two locations in Mostar, but the main place seems to be at Lazetica 13, which is where also the owner Miran and his wife live. This building has a lovely inner courtyard with a table, where we had our own breakfast. Our private large double room with shared bathroom and kitchen was huge and very clean. At 10 Euro per person per night it was quite cheap. Miran is a very friendly, talkative and helpful person. He picked us up at the train station, even though I told him that this wasn't really necessary. On arrival he offered us tea as well as free maps and brochures about Mostar. The hostel and especially the inner courtyard is a good place to get in contact with other travellers. Free internet access is provided as well. me and Omer by Krumlovgirl I love staying with this man. He’s a little old Muslim man that weighs about 85 pounds and speaks very slow, deliberate English. But he’s hilarious and very friendly. His two rooms are big and a 5 minute walk from the bus station. About five minutes to the old town as well. He might offer to fix you breakfast, or he might offer to fix you dinner. In some cases, maybe both. We ended up staying up half the night drinking red wine and eating goat meat with him and had one of the best nights of our trip. He’s also extremely knowledgeable about the city and can act as a tour guide if you want him to. We paid 10 euros a night and had one of the best night’s sleep that we had had up until that point. The hotel Ero is a massive hotel located near the bus and train station. It has a nice lobby area, an Internet cafe located next to it, and exchanges money. You can reach the old town in about ten minutes and the former front line runs behind it so if you're into war destruction it's a pretty good place to start. (I only mention this because depsite my reluctance to get into all of that, there are quite a few "war junkies" out there. )
All rooms have a PC terminal, a direct telephone line, TV sets and satelite program, with full comfort, mini-bar, and air-conditioning. It also has a restaurant with pretty good food decently priced and meeting rooms equipped with projectors and what-not. The breakfast is fairly substantial for the area and included with the price. Our room was large and airy and had a balconey that overlooked the hills. I recommend staying with a private family or a pension to get the full cultural aspect of the city, but if you want high comfort than this might be the way to go. The rooms looks pretty much like any other hotel room in the world. Our stay was all too short but we couldn't have picked a better location or found ourselves more comfortably accommodated than we did in this newly renovated top floor apartment with its wide terrace and fabulous view of Mostar's famous bridge and the beautiful Neretva River that flows through the town. Two bedrooms, shower room, a huge kitchen/dining/living room, off-road parking, spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and fully equipped, satellite television, DVD player, internet access - there was nothing more we could have wanted. We were there in August (2007) and only paid 80 euro a night. Looking at the only website listing it now (October 2007 and not the one I used) I see the apartment, and the others in the building - there are three, one per floor - are priced at GBP115 a night - quite a bit more expensive. The apartment does sleep 4 people and is truly lovely so is worth considering if your budget will accommodate this cost.
The apartment was no more than five minutes walk from the bridge and the historic streets and buildings in that area. The views from the terrace were wonderful, observing the changing light on the creamy stones of the bridge through the day was lovely. The top floor apartment is nicer than the middle one - lighter and brighter in its decoration and the terrace gets more sun. The ground floor flat was still being renovated when we were there - it certainly looked as though it was going to be just as well done as the others.

When we arrived in Mostar and were trying to park to look for motel Kriva Cuprija, we were approached by the manager of family run Pansion Rose who gave us the business card of his pansion. He speaks fluently at least English, French and German. We had seen that Pansion Rose was not inside the old town but 500m away, along a busy road, so, we had not selected it at first. Since we had found nothing else, we went there and were very happy with it.
The lady spoke perfect English and was very welcoming. The rooms were very clean, the breakfast excellent and as the rooms were lower than the road, we were not worried by the traffic at night. They have a private, enclosed, parking. The only drawback is that to get to the old city, you have to walk on an uneasy sidewalk, along a major road busy with traffic. The surface is far from even and it is almost not lit, which makes it rather uncomfortable when coming back after dinner! Nevertheless it is a good choice. Miran's property at Salke Sestica 14, Mostar by SWFC_Fan, 4 more photos I stayed at Hostel Miran for 2 nights during a visit to Mostar in May 2007. My friend and I paid just 44 KM (16 GBP) per night for a twin room with kitchenette and bathroom in what was effectively a family home. Location Miran actually owns two properties. One of these is located at Pere Lazetica 13 in the Carina area of Mostar. This is the property that is featured on www.hostelbookers.com (where I booked our room) and where I assumed that we would be staying. The other is located just a few hundred metres away at Salke Sestica 14 in the Mazoljice area of the city, and this is where we actually ended up staying. Both of these are located in Mostar's old town, about half way between the bus/train stations and Mostar's famous old bridge. Both the stations and the bridge are about 10 minutes walk away, while the nearest shops and restaurants are a 2 minute walk away. Bedroom Our twin room included two comfortable, but small, single beds, a large TV, lots of antique looking wooden furniture (a coffee table, a glass fronted cupboard, lots of wooden drawers) and a small kitchenette (with a large fridge, an oven, cutlery and crockery). Our room was located on the property's ground floor, right next to the family's living quarters. We had exclusive use of a small shower room which was also located on the ground floor. The room was clean and we received clean towels each day, as well as crisp, clean white bed sheets and blankets. There was a selection of English language novels in a small bookcase in our room, but we weren't there long enough to ever pick them up.
. The guesthouse and its owners I cannot speak highly enough of young Miran who owns this property along with his family. He is one of the most friendly and helpful people you could ever wish to meet. Even before our arrival in Mostar, he had sent me a few text messages to find out what time our bus would be arriving in the city and to ensure that he was there waiting for us upon arrival. True to his word, he and his girlfriend were waiting on the platform when we arrived and ushered us into the back of their car for the short journey to their home. Upon arrival at their home, we were greeted by the grandmother of the family who welcomed us with large glasses of ice cold fruit juice (a refreshing, sugar-free Herzegovinan speciality). We sat at a small table in their shaded yard while Miran provided us with a map and a brief insight into the town's attractions. We chatted about the 1990s war (or rather Miran did, and we listened silently before agreeing with him that it was "a crazy war") and about Miran's obsession with the local football team Velez Mostar! When we told Miran that we'd be heading to Sarajevo by train a few days later, he found us a copy of the train timetable and offered to phone his friend who owns a hostel in Sarajevo. The following morning, our accommodation in Sarajevo was completely arranged - we just had to get off the train and Miran's friend would be there. 2 days later, we did...and he was! It wasn't just Miran who was exceptionally welcoming and friendly, the whole family was. Although the older generations spoke no English (and we spoke no Bosnian), they always smiled at us and attempted to engage in conversation. No breakfast is served at the house, but we were invited to join the family for a morning coffee. I very highly recommend this accommodation for your stay in Mostar. It isn't luxurious, but it is centrally located, offers clean, comfortable rooms and is run by the friendliest family you could ever wish to meet. I loved this place! my cold room! by acemj When I arrived at the bus station in Mostar, there were no ladies offering rooms as I so easily found in Croatia. So, I asked the people at the ticket window if there was someone who knew about a room. What I should have asked was "is there anyone who speaks English?" Well, I had no luck with that, but between some Slavic words, some French and some German I was able to ascertain that there might be a room open if I followed a lady that suddenly appeared from behind the counter. We made our way through a despressing landscape of cement apartments and up a steep hill into a neighborhood still showing many scars from the recent war. When we arrived at the house, the lady rang the doorbell, but no one answered. We waited a few minutes and then the lady said to me, "moment, moment" and ran off back down the hill. It was cold out, but the view from up there was good, so I waited. About fifteen minutes later, she came back breathing heavily having just run down the hill and back up. Somehow she had acquired a key and was able to let me in. (continued below)

Private accomodation might be everything from a shack to shere luxury. This place is one of the best I have been to! It is run by mother and daughter Jadranka and Nina Sefic, and is situated in the croatian part, but a short walk from old town Mostar. If you make a reservation ahead, they will pick you up at the bus / train station.
The room we rented had a double bed and it`s own balcony. It is in a flat with three rooms, the other two rooms contains three single beds. There is a small kitchen and a bathroom, and as many towles you want :-) The place is very clean, they come in cleaning every morning. For this we paid only 10 Euros. Well, my travelling companion is a 50 cm tall moose, I guess we would have paid 20 had he been a human ;-) Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensivePhone: + 387 36 550 820Directions: The street runs from the big roundabout in the centre of the croatian part of Mostar, towards the muslim part and the old (newly restored) bridge.Other Contact: mob. + 387 61 382 743

Motel Kriva Cuprija by JLBG Motel Kriva Cuprija was our first choice but unfortunately, when we arrived at 6PM, all their rooms were booked out. So, we have no first hand experience of Kriva Cuprija.
It is very well situated, just overhanging Kriva Cuprija (the crooked bridge) and 100 m away from Stari most (the old bridge). It stands inside the old town of Mostar. However, note that the name “motel” can be misleading: you cannot reach the motel with a car, they have no private parking and you have to park somewhere around, which we found rather difficult though we were off season. I had read that in addition to Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian the staff spoke also English and German. However, when we were then, the only staff person in charge spoke only … Spanish (besides Bosnian of course). As my Spanish, though elementary, was better than my Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian, I chose to use Spanish!
