Hostel Miran
We stayed two nights at Hostel Miran which we had booked in advance due to a recommendation from VT member SWFC_Fan (Jonathan).
Hostel Miran is actually situated in two locations in Mostar, but the main place seems to be at Lazetica 13, which is where also the owner Miran and his wife live.
This building has a lovely inner courtyard with a table, where we had our own breakfast.
Our private large double room with shared bathroom and kitchen was huge and very clean. At 10 Euro per person per night it was quite cheap.
Miran is a very friendly, talkative and helpful person. He picked us up at the train station, even though I told him that this wasn't really necessary. On arrival he offered us tea as well as free maps and brochures about Mostar.
The hostel and especially the inner courtyard is a good place to get in contact with other travellers. Free internet access is provided as well.

Hostel Miran near the Bridge
They really look after you here. Its family run and they treat you more like a house guest. It is not fancy but it is spotless and Miran met us at the bus and as soon as we arrived he offered us to make tea or us a cold drink.
We had a double room and shared a washroom with a few other quests. We highly recommend this place!!
Miran's Mom told us 5 grenades hit the house , one killing her Dad. There is a huge crack in the courtyard floor that marks the spot. Sitting in her quiet couryard as she told the story it was hard to imagine the viloence that once was Mostar.
Unique Quality: Free internet. We were able to do some laundry here and hang in on the clothes line!!

Excellent value accommodation in Mostar
I stayed at Hostel Miran for 2 nights during a visit to Mostar in May 2007.
My friend and I paid just 44 KM (16 GBP) per night for a twin room with kitchenette and bathroom in what was effectively a family home.
Location
Miran actually owns two properties. One of these is located at Pere Lazetica 13 in the Carina area of Mostar. This is the property that is featured on www.hostelbookers.com (where I booked our room) and where I assumed that we would be staying. The other is located just a few hundred metres away at Salke Sestica 14 in the Mazoljice area of the city, and this is where we actually ended up staying.
Both of these are located in Mostar's old town, about half way between the bus/train stations and Mostar's famous old bridge. Both the stations and the bridge are about 10 minutes walk away, while the nearest shops and restaurants are a 2 minute walk away.
Bedroom
Our twin room included two comfortable, but small, single beds, a large TV, lots of antique looking wooden furniture (a coffee table, a glass fronted cupboard, lots of wooden drawers) and a small kitchenette (with a large fridge, an oven, cutlery and crockery).
Our room was located on the property's ground floor, right next to the family's living quarters. We had exclusive use of a small shower room which was also located on the ground floor.
The room was clean and we received clean towels each day, as well as crisp, clean white bed sheets and blankets.
There was a selection of English language novels in a small bookcase in our room, but we weren't there long enough to ever pick them up.

The guesthouse and its owners
I cannot speak highly enough of young Miran who owns this property along with his family. He is one of the most friendly and helpful people you could ever wish to meet.
Even before our arrival in Mostar, he had sent me a few text messages to find out what time our bus would be arriving in the city and to ensure that he was there waiting for us upon arrival. True to his word, he and his girlfriend were waiting on the platform when we arrived and ushered us into the back of their car for the short journey to their home.
Upon arrival at their home, we were greeted by the grandmother of the family who welcomed us with large glasses of ice cold fruit juice (a refreshing, sugar-free Herzegovinan speciality). We sat at a small table in their shaded yard while Miran provided us with a map and a brief insight into the town's attractions. We chatted about the 1990s war (or rather Miran did, and we listened silently before agreeing with him that it was "a crazy war") and about Miran's obsession with the local football team Velez Mostar!
When we told Miran that we'd be heading to Sarajevo by train a few days later, he found us a copy of the train timetable and offered to phone his friend who owns a hostel in Sarajevo. The following morning, our accommodation in Sarajevo was completely arranged - we just had to get off the train and Miran's friend would be there. 2 days later, we did...and he was!
It wasn't just Miran who was exceptionally welcoming and friendly, the whole family was. Although the older generations spoke no English (and we spoke no Bosnian), they always smiled at us and attempted to engage in conversation.
No breakfast is served at the house, but we were invited to join the family for a morning coffee.
I very highly recommend this accommodation for your stay in Mostar. It isn't luxurious, but it is centrally located, offers clean, comfortable rooms and is run by the friendliest family you could ever wish to meet. I loved this place!
