Favorite hostel in almost two months of travel

We arrived late at night without a reservation and after the initial surprise, Majda's first words were "here, try a local specialty" and that kind of hospitality didn't stop until we left (sadly) 3 days later. Make sure you do Bata's tour and go to all the restaurants they recommend. Best meals of our trip!!!

Unique Quality: Immediately made to feel like family and given enough local knowledge that you feel like you've lived there for years. Outstanding!

Homely Hostel

Majda's Hostel in Mostar is quite simply one of the most welcoming and homely hostels I have ever stayed in. From the free pick-up at the bus station to the welcoming coffee on arrival and the ever helpful and friendly Majda, Bata and Mama Nisa this hostel was a perfect base from which to explore Mostar and surrounding area.
The hostel is located in an apartment block 5 minutes walk from the Old Quarter and despite outside appearances, the hostel is in a safe and convenient location. Inside the hostel is spotless with two small common areas and a seating balcony, two large dorms and a number of private rooms. We stayed in one of the double private rooms, which were only two euros more expensive than the dorms and were worth the extra money for the space, comfort and facilities offered.
The hostel has free wireless and internet access for guests, no curfew, lockers and 24 hour hot showers.

Unique Quality: Apart from the ever present homely and welcoming atmosphere the most rewarding part of a stay in Majdas Hostel has to be the chance to take part in Bata's unique tours. For €20 Bata will collect you from the hostel at 10.30, after a free breakfast of coffee and traditional doughballs and jam, and drop you back sometime before midnight (and maybe after!!!) after showing you around the city of Mostar, detailing some of Mostar's history, taking you up into the hills around the city, Kravice Waterfalls and River (great swimming and rope jumps!!!), Herzegovina Vineyards and wine tasting, Pocitelj Medieval Town, Blagaj Dervish Monastery, Buna River, Medjugorje Pilgrimage Site as well as the chance to see traditional burek being made as well as sampled! (Tried burek many time before but this was the best so far!) This tour is not only worthwhile for the many activities shown but for the unique, energetic and fun way in which Bata delivers the day trip. He truely made the day what it was and any tour I have ever taken pales into insignificance compared to it. To use Bata's own expression it is not so much a tour but 'an adventure' Starting the day nobody is really sure where they are going and what they are going to see...including Bata himself I suspect, but that is the beauty of the tour. He suggests some things to do and if everyone is up for it we head there! The only down side is that you feel there are so many other places to see but as Bata is so open to changing his itinerary, you can just go again the next day to see other totally different places. The trip takes you to places you would not find otherwise and in small groups you really do get a personalised experience (There was only five of us with Bata for the day) If we had longer we would have definietely gone again. If you are looking for a hostel, Majdas is without doubt the best option in Mostar and iof you stay there, you must do the day trip with Bata.

Great rooms for rent!

I stumbled on this place because of its proximity to the train/bus station, and I couldn't have been happier. This lady has a beautiful, air-conditioned apartment where she rents out two rooms. The rooms are comfortable and extremely clean.

However, the BEST PART is the food!!! She cooks lunch/dinner everyday, and she makes enough for her guests. Oh my god, her cooking is amazing! The food alone is worth staying with her, and is an added bonus to the standard room rate (which is really afordable)! I spent two weeks in Mostar, exploring Bosnia & Hercegovina, as well as the Croatian coast, and her homemade food was the best I had anywhere. She even taught me how to make a few things, so I could enjoy them when I got back to the USA.
