In the mountain Vlašić, on the opened field is a great possibility to see and meet tornjak, a shepherd dog whose country of origin is Bosnia and Herzegovina. The dominant region of its cultivation in BiH is broader region of Mount Vlašić(central Bosnia). Tornjak name comes from the word "tor" which means a fenced area for accommodation and holidays of sheep in the open air on a mountain pasture. This breed there existed a thousand years ago, as are witnesses and a written document. Chroniclers of this dog registered before ten centuries called Canis montanus - mountain dog, and since ancient times it was our locals called Tornjak. Tornjaks as indigenous breeds registered May 9th 1981 under the name "Bosnian-Herzegovinian Sheepdog-tornjaks".
