sarajevo to prizren

by alpiro

hello,

i would like to travel from sarajevo to prizren. which would be the shortest way, is there a direct link with bus, or should i try changing buses?

can you help with ideas please?

thanks a lot,

Alpi

Re: sarajevo to prizren

by GyuriFT

According the 'Net resources you can reach Prizren with a direct bus every day.

The bus is run by ADIO TOURS d.o.o,
Gavrila Principa 46
RS-11000 Beograd
tel: +381 11 328 8707, an other number is +381 11 2687 778

Try also adiotours@mpgroup.rs

The bus would depart Sarajevo at 21:00, arrive Prizren 7:30 next morning.

Do not relax yet: rather call / e-mail the company and ask them, do they still run the service and if yes, what bus station in Sarajevo they are starting from. Maybe some VT members who are permanently in Belgrade can verify/contact the company.

Travel Tips for Sarajevo

Buildings with bullets holes

by georeiser

17000 people were killed in the 1990's war in Sarajevo. Even though the population lived together as neighbours. I was there in 2008, but could still see and feel the aftermath of the war. Some people I spoke with said the other part was crazy, but others were forgivable. The muslim taxi driver who drove from the city center to the eastern Serb-dominated busstation called Lukavica, showed me some buildings close to the Grbavica football stadium with bulletholes in the facade. Further on the road to the busstation he showed me another place where he said his father was killed by a grenade. He was surprisingly one of the most forgivable persons I met there.

Sarajevo tunnel

by Veroali

I have not visited the tunnel in the airport, but influenced by a documentary movie The Sarajevo tunnel, i feel i have to suggest visiting the tunnel. It is probably the most precious thing in Sarajevo, which is beyond price. Three men made a project and a group of volunteers secretly digged the tunnel under the runway. The whole city was encircled during the war and the only way how to get to or from the city was across the runway. But still soldiers were everywhere and there were killed a lot of people. Then these men got an idea of a tunnel.
It served as a connection with outside world, food, medicine and other stuff could have go to people in need in the city. Just according to the movie, noone from the government has ever thanked the men.
Even if the tunnel saved one life (and it saved more), the men deserve much more than just a thank you. Thats why i think it belongs to Sarajevo more than any other sights. It gave people a hope.

Shoes off before entering Bosnian house!

by travelife

You are supposed to take off your shoes before entering Bosnian house. Even though you are paying for your stay through accommodation agency, you are supposed to observe the house rules . The host / house owners can indicate the designated areas where shoes are allowed. If you are invited to a Bosnian house you are given a pair of slipper as long as you are inside. This practice comes from Eastern culture, but observed in Serb / Croat / Bosniak homes as a Turkish legacy.

Football and Football

by sabsi

We came to Sarajevo on the day one of the local footie clubs, FK Sarajevo, won the Bosnian league. On the way into the city we were stuck in traffic already - with crazy supporters all around us. Strangely enough they were all wearing Arsenal shirts because FK Sarajevo is wearing bordeaux coloured outfits as well ;)

When we went into town in the evening to meet VTer Santiago we ended in the official championship party which was huge. Thousands of people were singing the club song on the streets and there was a stage on Ferhadija where obviously the team was celebrated. It's was a thrilling atmosphere which seemed rather friendly. Only when a beer bottle crashed down to the ground only one metre next to where we were standing we escaped.

We met Santiago in a bar in Dalmatinska to watch the Champions League Final between Milan and Liverpool FC which unfortunately the wrong team won. When we went home there were still people singing in the streets. They obviously didn't care much for the Champions League. Whatever you wear, it should be bordeaux when FK Sarajevo plays, blue if NK Zeljeznicar plays ;) A helmet wouldn't be bad for championship celebrations ;)

Sarajevo National Library

by Gokcecicek

In the past, Sarajevo held several famous libraries. Notably Gazi Husrev-Beg's, and the national library. Unfortunately Serbian ultranationalists purposely fired upon the national library with incendiary shells and it was destroyed. An effort is underway to rebuild the library and replace what was lost. An impressive new modern "Gazi Husrev-Beg's" library is also being built.

There is a marble plate at the entrance of the building: "On this place, Serbian criminals in the night of 25th-26th August 1992, set on fire national and university's library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over 2 millions of books, periodicals and documents vanished in the flame. Do not forget, remember and warn!"
