This hotel was built for the winter olympics in the 80"s, and damaged in the seige of 95, now in 2010 it is grand again. For a single room , en suite, TV, Fridge, Telephone, and breakfast i paid 102 BAM ( £43 ) ( 52 euro ). It was clean, comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is rather strange, behind the railway station. Best use Taxi. In Directions here i explain walking from station. The reception staff can tell you a path to walk down to station platform and city centre In photo 4 , taken from the top of Tower the path can be seen Hotel top right, and red roof of station platform bottom left. The first time i walked to town to see the place, not to far. All other times i used the Tram number 1 , fare 1.60 BAM (70p) Tickets for tram are bought at a kiosk near stop The walk or ride to town you pass the famous Holiday InnThe Grand hotel has a huge car park.
Directions: On arrival by train or bus, the Grand Hotel is ( with back to station ) on the road to the left for about 150 m, then turn left across the railway crossing, then turn left . The Grand Hotel is most of the time in view over the railway lines.
This hotel is located near the train station, but nothing else. I wish it were closer to some places of interest. My room is satisfactory but lacks air conditioning. The restaurant on the ground floor served a great buffet, but the waiters started taking the food away too quickly. The upstairs bar was nice, but they may be filling their bottles with cheap substitutes.
It is unlikely that I will ever return to Sarajevo. It is even less likely that I will stay at the Grand.
