Sarajevo' s best private accomodation

If you don't want to spend too much money, just go for the private accomodation. When I arrvived, there was a woman who wanted to offer me a room te sleep. I followed her and I was sent to an agancy. I think the name was 'Basciarsja' or something like that. The only thing I remember that it was in the centre of the old part, Basciarsja, next to a bakery. The woman who runs the agency was so so nice to me. When You meet her, you will say the same, but you will also say that she 's a 'businesswoman' for 100%. I only spend around 12 euros per night. Idid'nt sleep in the centre, but outside the centre.

Unique Quality: A view to remember

Private Accommodation-Mama Taiba

I was fortunate to be set up with accommodations before I went to Sarajevo because the guy I stayed with in Dubrovnik had all kinds of contacts. (He also set me up in Mostar.) I say that I was fortunate because I know that I would have been completely overwhelmed when I reached Sarajevo had I arrived without previous plans. I was all but attacked by “sobe” women before I even got off the bus. It was more than a little daunting. So I was very glad that Taiba was able to run them off and usher me into an awaiting cab.

Unique Quality: Although I stayed in her private apartment, I did have my own room in it. Well, I shared it with my traveling companion at the time, Sumire. It was decorated oddly, kind of how you would expect an eccentric aunt’s place to be. Lots of little doilies and knickknacks and stuff. Rugs everywhere-even on the chairs! But she made us a nice breakfast for 3 euros and she was great about fixing us tea and stuff. The drawback was that she was a little far out of the center and it was a long walk to the tram stop, but for a little under $10 you couldn’t really ask for more.

Holiday Inn: More holes thana aswiss cheese

This was the only hotel that really functioned during the war. It has a very interesting history. If you read Peter Maas book, "Love Thy Neighbor" you will see what I mean. Snipers had open season on it but did not take too many shots because they knew it was full of journalists.

Unique Quality: A big hunk'o Americana right where you least expect it.

Pansion Train: Pansion Train

30KM for a single.

Unique Quality: It's bizarre. A couple of old sleeper carriages, and a restaurant car, have been converted into a guesthouse.

Don t think you will find...

Don t think you will find accomodations in Sarajevo so easily. It s not a tourist target. You can find some hotels but they can be expensive. Well, at least they were for me. A hotel could cost u$s70 daily. Instead of this you must take this option. I ve been at Mustafa's pension. Mustafa is an old muslim bosnian who lives with his wife Latifa. They are both great, my bosnian parents are friendly, and hospitality. You will feel at home, cause they make you feel like that. Price for night including breakfast is u$s12. Just prepare to learn some words in serbio-croatian first, cause they don t speak english or spanish...but it will be a funny experience, and they will find out a way to communicate with you. By the way, they are fans of argentine soaps!
Address is: ulica Marsala Tita 35, 4°th floor (VERY good location in the center of the city). Phone number is 668-645 (u should check country and city code if you want to call from abroad, but I did from there). If you go to them, please mention about that their argentinean son recommended you :)

Stay in Downtown

Vase Miskina, the main downtown street leads you to Bascarsija, market square and downtown quarter of the city. All the craft stores are located here in the oldest part of the city. It is the place for souvenir shopping.
