sofia to bansko in the winter with a snowboard

Hi,can anyone advise on getting to bansko from sofia, with our snowboards? am trying to find a cheap way to bansko. dates: 27 dec 2008 (or no one works around that period?)

ps; is it as easy getting back to sofia? And are all shops closed on christmas day in sofia?

I used HHB holidays transfer which was excellent. Cheap if there are more than 2 pax and very reliable.

you can try the bus also which you pick up from sofia bus terminal. Its cheap but a long slow journey and it drops you off at a tiny terminal in bansko. when we got there we were stranded as no cabs around luckily a local who was with his family offered to take us to our hotel.

Who's The Guy On The Main Square?

This is the Bulgarian Saint Paisii Hilendarski who was reputedly born here in Bansko in 1722. He is generally regarded as having laid the foundations for the Bulgarian National Revival with his publication of the Bulgarian/Slavic history "Istoriya Slavyanbolgarskaya" in 1762, the opening line of which reads: "Why are you ashamed to call yourself Bulgarian?"
The book is a sort of "call-to-arms" for the Bulgarian National consciousness during thje height of Ottoman rule.
He is not only commemorated here in Bansko but is also featured on the 2 leva banknote.
