Between Three Mountains
"The Tourist Boom Town of Bulgaria"
Bansko is really THE tourist boom town of Bulgaria. It takes three hours by bus to reach it from Sofia but the long travel is worth it. It has a wonderful location between Rila, Pirin and the Rhodopes. A cabin lift connects the town with the slopes under Todorka Peak where thousands of skiors swarm.
Bansko is an old town, with houses built of rocks ans timber. Walking along the cobbled streets is fun. There are wine bars, pubs and restaurants all over the place, most of them offer live folk music. You can buy handmade objects till late at night from the souvenir shops that seem never to close.
Every respectable citizen of Bansko seems to own or build a hotel or two. Competition has driven prices down. If you haven't made a reservation, just come to Bansko and you can always find a room you can afford, with a magnificent view that is worth a million dollars.
