Vihren chalet: Basic accommodation
Vihren chalet, or 'hizha' in Bulgarian, provides basic accommodation: rooms with several beds in each, or small cabins with 3+ beds. We slept in a cabin. It was decent enough and it was only the two of us although there was a third bed. We got sheets which looked clean. You have to make your bed yourself, and upon checking out, strip it and take the sheets to the manager, 'hizhar'.
The worst thing is that the toilets are dirty and stinky, and in an outside building, something typical for old chalets. It's a squat type of toilet. The bathroom is also in a separate room (one for the whole chalet if I gathered correctly). Not too clean, but the water was hot. It's only a guy and a boy running the whole chalet, which is quite big so no surprise.
There is a dining room which you can use even if you bring your own food. You can also buy food there: hot soup, some meat dishes, salads, even desserts. There is also a small bar where you can buy beer and soft drinks, as well as sweets and other junk food. They close at around 9 pm. They only had Nescafe and Nescafe 3-in-1. You can buy French toast for breakfast, 1.5 leva per piece. The herbal tea was delicious and only 0.5 leva.
The stay was 10 leva per person per night.

Hizha below Vihren: Mountain plaza #1
After our first hiking day we were glad to find a bed and a road restaurant 2 minutes away
as expected this place is not the Sheraton, yet once lying in your sleeping bag you dream about staying there warm & cosy after the walking effort for at least 3 full days
some 'visitors' preceeded us , I called agent Scully right away
Unique Quality: The major advantage versus Hizha Vihren, is that here u can go to the road restaurant to eat & drink whatever u want

Hizha Vihren: Mountain Plaza #2
On our way in the morning of our second day we stopped by Hizha Vihren, where indeed you can only prepare and eat your own food
so beware , best to stop over 3km below
