Burgas - how to get to bus from airport

by zsofi.g

Hi! We are thinking of travelling to Istanbul through Burgas. I have read earlier notes about busses for 20 euros. Do these still work? And if yes, how much does it cost, how much time does it take, how complicated is it to get from the airport to the bus? And where can I get more specific info about the busses? Thank you!!!!

hi,
yes, buses for 20E.. Possible! abt Burgas i can't say u anything.
i travelled many times from Istanbul to Sofia by bus n vise versa fr 25$US, bus starts abt at 6.00PM from bus station in Istanbul n arrives to Sofia bus station abt at midnight or 12.30AM.
the trip does not take a lot of time but customs checking / passport control etc at the border between Turkey n Bulgaria - takes abt 1.5 - 2 hours.
so, it is possible buses from Burgas to Istanbul for 20(E/$?).
the distance from Burgas to Ist is shorter then from Sofia to Ist so the ticket price shud be less. check it!
buses go frequently n all start at 6.00PM in both countries!

The airport bus in Burgas is number 15. This winter there was a huge scandal about the decision of the airport administration not to allow the bus to enter the airport premises and stop there. It was a question of taxi company lobbying, unfortunately.

Inquire at the information desks if the bus is still running. The price should be under 1 lev (50 euro cents), but I guess you should exchange some money at the airport. You pay for the ticket to the conductor that walks around the bus. If the bus does not stop within the airport, it should stop "next to a bare field some 1km away from the airport", as the newspapers claim. If you're with a lot of luggage (I assume), a taxi should be a better option. Order one from the taxi offices in the airport and ignore the rip-off masters that will try to extort a lot of money from you, as most southern European airport taxis do.

Buses to Istanbul most probably run from the main bus station close to the train station (where is the last stop of bus no.15, as well). A company called "Ovcharovi" runs three buses per day to Istanbul at 8am, 10:30pm and 11:30pm. Do check the departure times and the other operators on the route immediately when you get to the bus station. A price of 20 euro is reasonable for this route, it might even be less.

Hope that helps

You can catch bus No 15 just in front of the airport. It is very reliable and runs every 15 minutes. I know of a Turkish travel company named "Nishikli" which operates between Burgas and Istanbul. Its office and the place from where the buses leave is very close to the main bus station where you will arrive with bus No 15 from the airport. But this is not exactly the main bus station so you will have to ask.

Travel Tips for Burgas

Relaxing among trees...

by Teo72

The Sea Garden is a pleasant place to be at any season (but please, avoid walking its dark alleys late at night).
You can see people walking dogs, mothers with kids, young lovers, etc. It's the place to relax and spend an hour or two away from busy streets.

Gramophones

by Childish

the first one is to be found ot Bogoridi Street - the street that leads from the city centre to the sea, sea garden and the pier. Next to the gramophone there is coffee shop - try the cakes there.
it is a popular meeting place.
the second one in the yard of the Ethnographical museum.

Friendly city

by CliffClaven

Most visitors tend to rush through Burgas, the country's biggest port, on their way to the luxury tourist hotels at Sunny Beach north of the city or to the quieter resorts along the coast to the south. But with two universities and more than 6000 students, Burgas is a lively and friendly city that is well worth spending some time in.

Sand Festival

by ChristinaNest

Since 2008, a sand festival is held in Burgas every summer. Sculptors from around the world build fantastic sand sculptures. The 2009 theme is fairy tale and fantasy characters.
The festival is open till September.
It is held in 'Ezeroto' park, at the northern end of the Sea Park (Morskata gradina). It is right next to the riding school.
