Could be an excellent hotel
Just returned from 2 weeks in Sunny Beach, staying at the Hotel Meridian. The look of the hotel is very modern and in a good location. The reception area has several comfortable chairs and tables, a 24-hour bar, souvenir shop, hairdressers, tattoo shop, Doctors and Internet room. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful and check in was a breeze, 2 minuets max. The rooms are of average size, with a TV, telephone, and air-conditioning and plenty of storage on shelf’s and in drawers for our clothes. The bathroom is very small but they do have a hairdryer. The shower is very small so when you have a shower the water runs off the curtain and onto the floor, this is supposed to happen as they are wet rooms and the water will drain away, this however makes it very dangerous when stepping out of the shower so be very careful. All the rooms have balconies. There are 4 lifts, two in reception, (carry a maximum of 6 people), two at the rear of the hotel, (one of which was always out of order, carry a maximum of 4 people), with 500+ guests and the restaurant on the 11th floor and the lifts carrying a maximum of 20 people at any one time, it doesn’t take a mathematician to work out there’s going to be trouble at meal times, some people were waited for 20 minutes. The restaurant is much better run this year, and although the food hasn’t’ improved, the waiters are much more attentive. We were only B&B so only had breakfast, which was the same every morning, 3 or 4 cereals, fruit, rolls & croissants and something they called ‘English breakfast’? The swimming pool is just about big enough for the size of the hotel. All in all this is a very good hotel, very clean, friendly, in a very good position for shopping, drinking, eating and the beach (5min), towels changed every day, sheeting changed 4 times in our two weeks, if they could only improve the bathrooms and the lift problem this would be an excellent hotel.
Meritsa becomes The Meridian
If you’re going to Sunny Beach then I can just about recommend this hotel. The Meritza and Meridian have combined and the whole complex is now known as The Meridian and upgraded to 4* (See my report on Hotel grading in Sunny Beach report). The refurbishment that took place over the winter of 2004/2005 has been rushed and in some places the hotel is a little rough around the edges, but in general to a good standard. Some of the bathrooms have yet to be finished and we were unlucky to get one of these, but were told by others that the completed bathrooms were very good. The rooms are a good size with plenty of storage for your clothes. One side of the hotel overlooks the pool, which is just about adequate for the size of the hotel.
If you’re on this side, or to the rear of the hotel, then it is fairly quiet, but if you’re on one of the other two sides, it can be a little noisy up to about 1am, so take your earplugs. The roof top restaurant gives a good panoramic view over Sunny Beach, and Nesebar, but I cannot recommend the food, not even the breakfast. The reception staff are very good at their job and very friendly and helpful as are the staff in the bars and the chambermaids. The staff in the roof top restaurant are not so friendly or helpful. The hotel is in the southern part of Sunny Beach and about a 10 min walk from the beach, and has a number of very good restaurants all within 200yds. The corner pub, which is also part of the Meridian complex, is very good and cheap.
Directions: Southern Sunny Beach. 10 min walk from the beach. Surrounded by plenty of good restaurants
More about Meridian
what can i say ? hell on earth , so tacky it should belong on a pancake!
after experiancing our worst holiday to date,i must advise anyone considering taking a family to this hotel to think again.it is not safe in any shape or form,ie:lift jamming on baby daughters arms in pushchair, loose wall socket, room only cleaned every 2 days sheets changed 4 day,no baby changing facilitys.noisy due to not stop music situated on entrance of hotel,i could go on and on beleive me,all im saying for a bit extra go to cyprus.
great holiday - going to go back in september
Hotel is more 3* than 4, hotel looks great but thats about it. Lifts broke down regularly (however back up and running often after 30mins), staff were friendly and helpful but the food was/is absolute rubbish - cold and little variance - however the restuarants around are superb - cheap and HOT!.
There were 3 couples in our party all split up (3rd floor and 9th floors) and ate out every night, beach is only a 10 minute walk away and much better than the pool!.
Dont buy the tour operators excursions - goto any other local place and negoiate for about half the price.
i recommend the jeep safari - a fantastic day out and dont forget the suntain lotion (ps was £40 for tour operator and we paid 65 levs - about £23)
this hotel is the pits
we have just arrived back from a two week stay at the Meridan Hotel in Sunny Beach Bulgaria, At first the Hotel looked fine but in the light of the next day what a shock we got.
* Balcony collapsing when it rained
* maids not leaving enough towels for a family of three
* shower flooding everthing
* breakfast unedible and evening meal never cooked properly.
* charge for cots
* if you require another bed in the Hotel room expect a very small foldaway bed only big enough for a very small child definately not suitable for an adult.
There is no entertainment unless you are in the 18 -20 age group where you want to drink yourself silly every night or shop for the same item in every shop with not alot of variety.
Look out for the pick pocketsand beggers in the local area, it you fancy going to the local town of necesbar then definately use the bus service three people can travel there on the bus for 2.10leva do not use the taxi service as they will change you 10-15leva each.
This was our first trip to bulgaria and it will definately be our last. we went with First Choice try a different company due to the lack of help from their rep
disapointed of this hotel
stayed on 24-28/06/2007.
should be no more than 3* hotel.
at first we got a room with terrible smell, after insisting at the reception desk they agreed to change the room.
the open plumbing in the bathroon was disgusting.
there are only 4 lifts and usually one is out of order.
the food was average, the tables were not clean enough, and the
stuff was lazy.
the room was not cleaned properly during our stay, they just
the location was great.
sunny beach is avery nice place for vacation but try a better hotel.
after reading some negative veiws on the hotel b4 i went i was compleatly sattisfied with the hotel. rooms were nice and cleaned every day, breakfast was a good selection hot and cold ok not your english bacon and sausage but then we are abroad the only problem was the toaster was a bit slow. staff were freindly. yes the lifts sometimes were slow only can fit 6 people so that sometimes was a problem. i would say we were unaware of the payments of the sun beds per day by the pool as we never have done that b4. it cost 5 levs per day each. but on saying that the resort is so cheap that you gained the money back in other ways. i would definetly go back to the hotel.
We travelled in a group of six, ages ranging from 17-19 and found this hotel great for our age group. The hotel was very clean and tidy and was very modern. The only problem with the hotel is that sometimes the lifts break and the food isn't really that good. For us the lifts breaking wasn't really a problem but understandably would be if you were travelling with young children or elderly people. The food isn't really very good , however it is so cheap to eat out you don't really mind. And there was two different soups every night and a variety of puddings so we always had something to eat. There is also a kids menu.
A few friends also visited the spa in the hotel and thought it was really relaxing and also well worh the money.
There is also a tatooist, small shop, hairdressers, internet cafe and big reception area inside the hotel.
The pool is very nice and kept clean. It is best to get a sun bed as early as possible if you are travelling in a big group to ensure you get beds together, however a sun bed costs 5 leva for each day.
The location of the hotel is great as it is not far to the beach, which is very clean and also had lots of affordable water sports available.
Also the Kuban square is just a twenty minute walk away or you can get a road train to take you there in five minutes.
The Gypsy market is also around a 15 minute walk away and is worth a visit.
There are also plenty of restaurants, fast food stalls and bars to visit nearby.
Also a selection of rides and stalls are nearby to go on, such as shooting galleries, quad bikes, bungee rides, bucking broncos etc.
I would highly recommend this hotel and sunny beach to every age group.
Just back from a 2 week break in Bulgaria. When we arrived at the Meridian Hotel we thought it looked absolutely cracking!! It is based right in the middle of a lot of restaurants, shops and a couple of bars. The room in the hotel was great, everything u need! I read a lot of complaints about the showers but in all honesty they were fine, just make sure u put a towel down on the floor!! The maids are great, in most days with fresh towels and change the beds! U don't get a safe in ur room, it is based down at reception which we thought was good idea as there is security there 24/7!! The only downfall we felt with the hotel was the fact u had to pay for a sun lounger ( only 5 lev but that isn't the point).
The restraunt is based on the top floor of the hotel, it is is a bit of a nightmare to get up there as there are not a lot of lifts and it is some hike when u are on the 2nd floor!! The food itself wasn't that great we only ate in there about 3 times.Breakfasts were fine but again took a while to get up to the restraunt! There are so many restraunts outside the hotel that are dirt cheap we didn't mind eating out!! It only cost about 15 pounds for 2 drinks, starter and 2 main courses ( main courses are huge) in the majority of the eateries!!
The pubs in bulgaria are great , buy one get one free!!! Cheap, cheap, cheap!!! Hundreds to choose from!! The beach is lovely as well and pretty cheap for the beds and umberella! It is only a 5 min walk away from the hotel.
My advice would be to take Lev don't take euro as everything is still priced in Lev! Only the airport is priced in Euro.
All in all we had a great holiday and would recommend this hotel to couples and friends!!
We've just come back from Sunny beach. The resort is ok Golden Sands is much better by far. This hotel is running 18-30 holidays now. We took our son who is 10 and wanted to play in the pool but the gangs of boys and girls taking over the whole of the pool and the language left a lot to be desired. Five families that we met all had to use other pools because of this. The hotel is ok. I would not say it is a 4 star at all. Beds changed every 3 days or so. Clean towels each day. The bathroom floods each time you have a shower and if you don't shower by 5.30 you don't get water till gone 7pm. We were on the 10th floor under the restaurant. Very noisy as all you hear all the time are the wooden chairs scraping along the floor. Lots of building work going on around the hotel. The food was rotten. Watch the chicken as they don't cook it properly. The cups , plates and cutlery were always running out and it took ages to get any as the restaurant staff do not speak english and are very ignorant. The cleaners are lovely and more helpful. The last thing is the lifts. They never work. You can be waiting upto 20 mins for a lift and then they go to any floor they want. The lifts have a mind of their own. Overall an ok hotel, good location. Not suitable for families, fantastic for partying singles. The hotel was better than some i have stayed in but it's not for me.
