Tourist Information Centre
by johngayton
In the middle of the city centre you'll find the little Tourist Info Centre. I personally didn't have to cause to use it this time round but it looks as if it would be useful. Here you can get a free photocopied city map, accommodation help, general advice on things to do, public transport info and it also acts as booking agents for major local shows and events.
The office is located at ul "Hristo Botev" 5, just off the main street, behind the "Mother Bulgaria war memorial, next to the Etap hotel where the Sophia - Varna buses stop. The website, in English, is well worth a visit with all sorts of useful stuff on it.

The bridge across the river leading to the Assens Monument and Art Gallery seems to be one of the popular spots to have your picture taken. The backdrop is the Yantra river valley heading south out of the city - pic #3
Arbanasi
by ger4444
When you stay a bit longer in Veliko Târnovo, Arbanasi is a nice half day trip. It is a small village where some of the Bulgarian rich and famous live. Living there in large houses behind high walls. The little village has monasteries and a lot of churches, that are mostly not accessible however. Arbanasi is found in the 15 th century by Albanian Christians. In the Ottoman time the village got prosperous by trading with Russia, Greece and India. But in 1798 it got got completely destroyed by the Turks. (For more details: see my Arbanasi Page)
You can get there by minibus, they depart at the Vasil Levski street where the busstation is. Or take a taxi, which costs about 2 lv.
Don't miss the chicken grill!
by iavormar about HAPPY! Bar & Grill in V.Turnovo
This is a bulgarian restaurant chicken grill food chain. They look all over Bulgaria just the same but taste great. Inside it's like in a Hard Rock Cafe but they serve grill but only from chicken and turkey. Any of them... really good. delicious
Tsaravets Fortress
by terrycowan
This is an amazing site. The citadel is located in a great bend of the Yantra River, with the only access being an extremely narrow isthmus. The fortress was nearly impregnable, and served as the capital of the 2nd Bulgarian Kingdom until captured by the Ottoman Turks in 1393. Ruins of palaces, churches, homes and shops are scattered all over the hill. The site also offers commanding views of Veliko Turnovo and the surrounding area.
