This Hostel Mostel is the best hostel in Sofia,
it's the cheapest, but also the best.
With a no-shoes-area where you can lay, read, watch tv.
Two computers, a printmachine for printing tickets,
wifi! And on top of that free coffee/beer/tea and one welcome shot at the bar close to the hostel!
The bed's are kind of trashy (in the 24-persons) room, but where good to sleep on.
Had some great fun there. Close to the centre and a supermarket.
And in a lovely old Greek building. Would do it all over again!
Unique Quality: Free coffe/tea/beer!
One of the best hostels ive stayed in in the world...
Some hostels just know how to make a good hostel simple as that!
This place is centrally located, about a 20min walk from the train/bus station.
Its just 10 euros for a dorm bed but breakfast (all you can eat of bread, hams and cheeses) included and a free dinner at night (Ok, only pasta and sauce but its free!).
they also have a double room available in a seperate block which is in an apartment which is like a mini hostel, shared with other double bedders, which is 35 euros.
But the things that sets it apart is the layout of the common area, very relaxed atmosphere and very easy to meet people and meet a good crowd who are up for chatting and usually someone to go out for a beer with.
they have free internet and free tea/coffee, free pool.
theres a tv with chill out area with pillows etc
and finally, the staff are great and very very helpful and friendly
airport pick upis 15 euro if its late.
Amazing hostel. I was only going to spend 1 day/night in Sofia, but in part due to this hostel I ended up staying for 4. It has great beds and possibly the largest common room in Europe, with free internet, dvds and a POOL TABLE!!! All this for 10euro including breakfast and dinner. Highly recommended.
After hearing negative things about the city , I decided (which I usually do when many tourists say dont give the place a chance) a few days. Hostel Mostel is usually booked during most times during the year but after staying for three days I can understand why. Despite being a bit crowded, it was very clean and a great place to meet travellers. The hostel staff are great and they offer a wide range of excellent services from cheap phone calls to train/bus reservations to day trips. The whole experience was great and it was def one of the best hostels in Eastern Europe. Great value :)
Unique Quality: One of the best qualities of this hostel is that every night you stay, you get free pasta and a free pint of beer. Add free high speed internet and this hostel is on its own. Free breakfast, free supper means your food costs are dramatically cut during the day making this place a gem for budget travellers.
After arriving at the hostel at 1-30am from the airport, we checked in and paid only to find that we were staying in another apartment some 10 minutes walk away. The young man on duty was very helpful and apologetic and showed us the way. On arrival though the beds were awful and had no sheets. The onsuite bathroom had an open window onto the comunnal bathroom which meant we were able to hear all the ablutions of the other guests. After a 20 minutes wait whilst the guy went and brought back some clean sheets, he made up the bed and we promptly went to bed. Since the apartment was on one of the main boulevards of Sofia, we had an awful night's sleep. Taxis, cars and trucks racing down the road outside your room is not nice at the best of times, but the vehicle noise seemed somewhat amplified.
We had breakfast back at the main hostel which was fine and set in a nice communal dining area. However, if getting a good night's sleep is important to you, then make sure you check in advance where your room will be. If they say it will be in the apartment on the boulevard, find somewhere else to stay instead. Overall, very overpriced for what you get.
Unique Quality: Noisy, unmade beds. Overpriced.
Directions: Central Sofia.
A well placed hostel within easy walking distance of central Sofia. The hostel is very popular amongst the hostel fraternity. The staff are easy going and very helpful.
Unique Quality: 1. Free internet
2. Free Breakfast & Evening Meal
3. Close to City Center
4. Able to arrange tours and day trips
5. User friendly
6. 10 Euros a night
Directions: Near Macedonia Square
Location of the hostel is a little bit tricky...and once time you get there...you can realize that its just in the very center of the city closer of Vitosha street one of the most crowded and throngs of people walking along
From the bus station walk down for 20-25 minutes Hristo botev street through Makedonia square and then cross Alabin street...denkoglu and Hostel Mostel is one behind this last street .
A cab could cost around 5 or 6 leva i guess remember, almost 3-4 Euros

The best accomodation i stayed in Eastern or almost the best staff ... !! i repeat several times this but Sofia has an extremelly helpfull staff and great services in
The place is quite afar from the bus station but you can take a cab and get there in 10 minutes...on walk you need almost 25 minutes not lingering or watching street scenes or people moving
Well the places is not far away from the center ..its in a good location and just 5 minutes walking to the main avenue full of shops and exchange offices....
Unique Quality: Breakfast time !!!!!! behold that !!! its amazing ...the best in my backapackers' life !!! lol !!
There is a light quarrel (lol) everyday for the bathroom ..there are 2 showers for 3 common rooms so it isnt a full place to sleep...try to book in advance ..so many days before ... i was very lucky my second time there it was just one bed !!!
The rooms and people and living as well are so comfortable and there is a lively and friendly cool place !! i met a lot of people there who i still talk and keep in touch !!

In the very centre of the city you find a nice hostel with very friendly and helpful staff. I rented a single room in a flat behind the hostel and had my privacy there. Instead of this you can use the facilities of the hostel, e.g. breakfast and dinner (!), which is included in the price.
This hostel I can really recommend!
The best thing about this hostel is the remarkably friendly and helpful stuff.
If you book a single or a double here (like I did) you get a room in a private apartment close by, so I can't comment on the dorms. The private rooms could have been kept a bit better though ( well, cleaner).
Breakfast is included as is pasta & beer for dinner.
Hostel Mostel-Sofia
Please can anyone give me an honest review of "hostel mostel" in Sofia. I will be going there January, Thankyou
It's a nice hostel but Sofia is not the best place you can go. You can go in Veliko Tarnovo - the old capital of Bulgaria. The city is very beautiful and there are a lot of places to visit. You can find a very nice hostel there - Hikers Hostel. Visit - www.veliko-tarnovo.net and www.hikers-hostel.org
I would say it is the best hostel in Sofia.......free dinner with beer, and a free breakfast. They have free lockers.....and a newly remodled lounge area that is huge and away from the dorms. If you want a place a bit more low key and private try 'Be my Guest hostel, or the art hostel.
I agree with the comment above......but personally do not find Veliko Tarnovo to be that incredible....I personally find Plovdiv old town to be amazing....visit a few villages if you can..........this is where you will find the truely intact Bulgarian culture. good luck
