Bulgarian police registration papers checked upon exiting the country?

by song99

Bulgarian police registration papers checked upon exiting the country?

Apparently there is a rule/law that requires foreigners not staying in hotels to register with the police (and provide proof of registration) upon exiting the country (i.e. at Bourgas international airport).

Does anyone remember how strictly this was enforced the last time you left Bulgaria (and didn't stay in hotels)? I am Canadian, and they had a similar rule in Serbia, but after research online, and advice from others, it became clear it wasn't neccessary to register with the police just because I wasn't going to be staying in hotels during my stay. On the train to Montenegro, no Serbian officers asked for the registration slip, and most people didn't know what registration meant, even though this was written on their embassy website.

How does it work in Bulgaria?

Dear Song99

Even if you do not stay in a hotel, you must stsy somevhere. The rule is not to make inconviniances to you but to the autokams or private acomodations where you probably intent to stay in. The procedure is foloving(including Serbija, montenegro, macedonia and other countries in the region). the owner or person in charge of the place where you are acomodate will bring all necesary documents to the authorities and bring you a slip with stamp from the police or municipality(depende who is in charge). That is due to force the owner to pay state or local taxes. So ask the person in charge to provide you a slipp.
You are not obliged to have that slip within 24 hours from entrance in the country(traveling time or transite)

Best regards Ezerski

I stayed in a rented flat in Sofia, in hostels and B&B and hotels. When I left no one asked me for either a registration slip or proof of any hotel stays...

Didn't even get a receipt from the hostels for that matter.

why take a chance. me and 20 other family members were there several years ago.
there was 4 different groups. each group arrived and departed on different days. two of the groups were ask to show the proof of emergency removall by plane insurance. that is what the guy checking passports and visas called it.
the same was true on having to show the papers from the hotels and other places we stayed.
i was told that a group from england did not have the papers from where they stayed. there flight out was saturday morn. they were told they would have to stay over until tues when some goverment office opened and get papers to leave then.
they called the travel service agency. the agency was able to get there papers to leave the next day. but it cost them a night in a hotel plus around 20 pounds each for a special handling charge the government office charged plus 10 pounds each the agency charged.

Travel Tips for Sofia

On The Field. By Peyo Yavorov

by kalenderov

Do not be waiting for the dawn,
Go out and plaugh, plough, plough on...
There is no good to tell,
So let it go to hell!
You haven't blinked, the moon's asleep
Up in the sky, the night is deep,
Your head is heavy, your eyes with clay
Are shut together. No time to sit!
Easter's close, and plaugh and seed
The earth is waiting - day after day.
C'mon, move on! 'Cause see, the neighbour
Is also ready for heavy labour.
And out you go, in freezing earth
You push the plaugh, you hit and hurt
The poor cow... A foggy night
Sinks in the valley, and then you might
Rest shortly, stop,
Head spinning so...
You can't just drop.
Go... Go, sucker, go!

If all the thorns and weeds allow,
Go out and plough, plough, plough...
There is no good to tell
So let it go to hell!
The morning comes, the sky's in fire
And flowers make up the fields' attire
The sheppard plays, the herd is moving
And birds are singin' so f.uckin' groovy.
You look and listen, you don't know why
You got the blues: and damn it, God!
Something inside you just wanna cry
And freezing blood's choking the heart.
The noon arives, the cool is gone,
Sun-fire's burning the trees, the stone.
You sweat like hell - so hot inside,
Can't go no more - you gotta abort,
You grab your back and get up - Lord!
And in a hurry you take a bite.
Just drink a coke
And eat that doe!
You spit and choke...
Go... Go, sucker, go. The sun will burn you 'til the grave.
You plough, plough, plough - like slave...
There is no good to tell,
So let it go to hell.
You come back home, call it a day,
And some commotion, from far away,
You hear then. But what the hell
In your place goes - you could not tell.
And later on, you know and fear,
'Cause a.sshole-taxman has come to clear
Your empty pockets. The folks - in fever
"He'll take it all, that stinkin' evil!"
That's all you hear, that's all the talk,
And you're thinking - it's just a joke!
"To work like crazy". If you could rub
Your head and turn that falling lice
Straight into money to pay the price!..
You think, and think - right to the pub
There get some drinks,
'Cause, buddy-Joe,
Life trully stinks!
Go... Go, sucker, go!

* * *

That's how we die,
I'm saying so,
And I don't lie!
Go... Go, f.ucker, go!

Don't Get Confused

by viddra

Unlike most countries, in Bulgaria, when you want to answer with a 'yes', shake your head back and forth. To answer with a 'no', nod your head up and down. This will spare you a lot of confusion and embarrassing misunderstandings.

In Your Pocket Guide Sofia

by yumyum

We couldn't find the "inyourpocket" guide Sofia anywhere. And because we are fans of these guides we didn't give up easily. We couldn't find the so called tourist information center near the Sheraton Hotel. In the end we walked into the Hilton and asked at the reception for the IYP guide which they handed to us. It was complimentary.

The SYNAGOGUE

by matza

The Sofia Synagogue, which was designed by the architect Grunanger, closely resembles the famous Sepherdic house of prayer in Vienna, which was later demolished by bombs. It was opened for worship in 1909. The building is in Spanish-Mauritanian style, with a central octangular dome

Tequilla Bar is a great place to go if you want to go out, have real fun and dance. There is a terrace that overlooks Vasil Levski monument.

I should say that I have never been there untill last Friday but I liked it a lot and will probably start go there from time to time.

I would strongly recommend the place to VTers :))))
