Left Luggage at Plovdiv Railway Station
by johngayton
If you need someplace to leave your luggage for the day (up to 24 hrs) you'll find lockers in the main hall of the railway station. These are well-signposted, look safe and sturdy and are simple to use. Put your luggage in, close the door, put the correct money in the slot (2 lv, small; 4 lv large - Jan 2010), turn the key and take it with you.
These are one-time use only and so if you need to access your luggage before taking it away you have to pay again.
Stroll through the Old Towm...
by MZK
Stroll through the Old Towm and visit all the fabulous old hoses and churches with great icons, wood carvings and gardens. Now, many small restaurants and bars could be spotted.
Check my travelogue for more pictures of the Old Town When I was a teenager we used to hang out at the Amphitheatre - a great view of the city from the top of the hill.
Plovdid overview
by ger4444
The old Plovdid center is walkable and compact and free of traffic. The old town was walled and has a famous Gate entrance. The nearby Puldin Restaurant has cellar rooms where old walls are still visible. Going uphills you find the old houses that are now museums and a Roman Amfitheater that overlooks the town and is still in use for concerts. To the South of Plovdiv a famous monastery is located – the Bachkovo – and the surrounding nature has many attractions such as springs. In town: try to see the town at sunset, when from the hills you have amazing views over town. Go down once it’s dark for nightlife. During daytime do the sights at old town: find art, nice architecture and there are some pubs with sometimes life performance. The ruins: check out at your hotel when there are live performances at the amfitheater. Opera, traditional music and plays are still performed there. Modern center: when its hot, cool down at the public garden or the park at the food of the hill of liberators. Once when its less hot, go to Tsentralen squre to hit the pubs. The whole Plovdiv center is thus walkable, it is located nort of the railroad station, east of the Hill of Liberators, south of the Maritsa River and west of the Mitropolit Panaret street (in the north) and west of Vazrazhdane (in the south). The modern suburbs are to the north in the far distance. The city is based on seven hills. The main street is the shopping area and it’s the shopping mall, the ulitsa Aleksandar, which links Tsentralen square to Dzhumaya square. Its not likely that you get lost, but you can buy a city map: the old plovdiv sightseeing map is 5 lv and can be bought at the tourist office
International Theatre festival “Scene on Crossroad
by mirchica
The festival is organized on the basis of a mutual project with the Madrid International Mediterranean Theater Institute. Leading Bulgarian theaters present their current season’s performances, all the performances being united by a common topic. Theaters from many countries like Greece, Romania, Ukraine, Macedonia, Spain, UK, etc. have participated in that festival. The eminent Bulgarian actor Stefan Danailov is artistic manager of the festival. In 2002, for the very first time, a new theatrical form was presented – the so called “Street Theater" (open-air and street performances of sketches and grotesque plays).
