Golden Sands

by boo5

Have just booked late cheap AOL B&B deal from London to Golden Sands at end of May,I know nothing about the resort so would like as much info as possible. A few examples follow, how hot will it be, is it cheap to eat & drink there are there things to do! are the people nice. Is it just a beach resort, how is the water is it good to swim! Are there internet cafes and are there things to buy. Thanks

It's probably the best bulgarian seaside resort, with lots of trees and mineral springs in the sea near the beach. If you like nightlife, you can burn the candle from both ends;-)). Don't miss the chance to see the neighbouring sites of interest, like Euxinograd Palace and the wonderful botanical garden at Balchik.

Golden Sands is a beach resort not unlike the ones you will find throughout most of Europe like Spain, Algarve etc. he difference is that everything is so much cheaper than central europe. A glass of beer is 75p a meal for 2 is £7 and cigarettes are 50p a pack.
In general the people are all friendly and will go out their way to help you. It really is a beautiful country and is a great place to spend a holiday. If you want more information try these 2 websites which are full of useful information.

Hope you enjoy your holiday

Thanks for all the tips, just got back from Golden Sands and really enjoyed it, although the weather could have been a little better, but it gave use more time to look around the shops and discover all the bargins, I couldn't believe how cheap things were, and found some fab resturants, will certainly be returning.

Varna's New Spa and Swimming Complex

by johngayton

Varna has one of Bulgaria's most modern municipal swimming and spa centres, officially opened in June 2008.

The swimming complex boasts an outdoors Olympic-sized main pool and a couple of smaller ones, all using the naturally-heated local spring waters. At the time of writing (Nov 2009) the cost is 3 Leva per hour for adults, with half-price for students and pensioners.

The spa centre offers a range of therapeutic treatments, massages and baths with costs varying depending on the chosen option.

I know, it's the most EXTRAORDINARY tip I've :D
But the funniest thing is that , everything is written in cyrillic.....and it's not that cyrillic for I see it here in Moscow, but cyrillic in BULGARIAN!!!!!!!!!!! Soooooooooo weird! :D lol

Varna by night

by ettenaj

Varna comes to life at night time. The cathedral looks amazing when it is all lit up. During the day it is a beautiful building but at night it becomes spectacular!! The markets stalls look like side shows at a fair with the single light bulb dangling above the seller's head. Its a vibrant city that you must see by day and by night to get the true feel of the place.

Varna is Bulgaria's third largest city. It was an inhabited place even before the Greeks established the colony of Odessos there about 580 B.C. Later, under the Romans and their successors, the Slavs, Varna became a major port trading with Constantinople, Venice and Dubrovnik. In 1393 it was captured by the Turks, who made it an important military centre.
Nowadays it is the main port for both naval and commercial shipping and, adjacent as it is to the coastal resorts of Golden Sands, St. Constantine (Drouzhba) and Albena, it has a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Sailors on shore-leave in unfamiliar ceremonial uniforms, mingle with foreign tourists and locals as they promenade along shady boulevards, lined by dignified 19th and early 20th century buildings.
