Varba to Bucharest by bus

by jerry786

I would like to know the bus schedule to go from Varna to Bucharest on either 10 or 11 of July. Thanks

Re: Varba to Bucharest by bus

As far as I can see there's only one direct bus service between Varna and Bucharest at the moment, the AtlasTrans 5.50 am departure on Mondays and Fridays. However there's probably other services during the summer that the timetables haven't been posted for yet.

Alternatively there are several services to Ruse and from there you can easily get a bus onwards to Bucharest.

The Varna bus station website is www.autogaravn.com It's in Bulgarian but if you don't recognise Cyrillic then install Google toolbar which translates it fine.

Also you could get the train. There are two connecting services daily from Varna, changing at Ruse - the 0915 and the 2200. Both involve a couple of hours at Ruse. Through tickets can be bought in Varna from the Rila office on ul Preslav or at the station.

During the previous summers there was also a direct train from Varna to Bucharest every day that left Varna in the afternoon and reached Bucharest around midnight. I have no idea about prices (probably around 15-20 euro one way and less than double for a return). The timetables are not online yet. I suggest that you check

maybe around June to see the updated version with the seasonal summer routes. Or just go to the train station and ask. There is no way to book the tickets online, but normally there is no need either.

Varna City Museum

by bijo69

Next to the Roman Baths you find the mainly overlooked City Museum. You'll get a guided tour through the recent history of Varna for 4 BGN. I liked the 2nd floor especially, where they have replicas of how interiors of cafés, hotels etc looked in the 1920ties in Varna.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 1oam to 5pm.

HUGE Portions!

by johngayton about Tshou

Varna is a very cosmopolitan city for eating out but I was surprised to find that it has at least eight Chinese restaurants within the city limits. Doing a little research I find that Chinese immigration to Bulgaria is a relatively recent phenomenon, only taking off following the improvement in Bulgarian-Chinese trade and diplomatic relations after the collapse of Communism.

Recent estimates put the number of Chinese living in Bulgaria at about 10,000 (and growing), a significant majority of which are employed in the restaurant trade.

Here at Tshou we were introduced to one of the most recent immigrants - our excellent, although painfully shy, waitress.

This is a good restaurant. Service throughout was friendly and attentive. The decor is bright and Oriental without being too gaudy and the place had a pleasant local buzz even on a quietish Sunday evening. We started with a fruity rakia, accompanied by what Marina rates as the best cabbage salad in town - the subtle Chinese seasoning raising it to its deserved ranking. For mains Marina opted for the Crispy Duck whilst I ordered Shanghai King Prawns.

The duck turned out to be a WHOLE duck, carved expertly off its bones. Its skin was aromatically-crisped to perfection, the flesh succulent and the rich mushroom and vegetable sauce an ideal match. My prawns too came as a huge plateful, big and juicy in a light soy sauce with a pleasant hint of spice. It was only once everything had arrived that I noticed that most of our fellow diners were in fact sharing single dishes - there was enough food in front of us to have fed four.

Whilst the 35 Leva bill was a little more expensive than most Varna restaurants it was still good value for money considering the generosity of the portions - it was a good job we'd had an energetic afternoon hiking through the Zlatni Piasatsi Nature Park up to the Aladzha Monastery!

Watching The World Go By

by johngayton

As soon as the first hint of a sunny day arrives the cafes and restaurants around the main square (pl Nezavisimost - Independence Square) become the place to be where you can sit with your coffee and watch the world go by - in my case sit watching the pretty women ;-)

One word of advice though is that coffee prices vary enormously between the cafes and that the best value for money is The Happy Bar and Grill.

The Varna bay

by desert_princess

Along the Varna bay is the water walk where you can find all the entertainment - Clubs, restaurants with delicious fish specialities and street merchants - you all have it here. Just walk in direction of the beach and choose your place for the evening. Or you can continue your walk until you pass Mr. Baba restaurant, and arrive to the Breakwater and the lighthouse that mark the beginning of the Varna Sea Port.
