Varna-Ruse-Bucharest

by virtual786

I must go from Varna to Bucharest on 10 July. The only information I have found is a train that arrives in Ruse at 12:35. The last bus from Ruse to Bucharest seems to be at 12:40. I've been unable to find anything about buses from Varna to Ruse or trains from Ruse to Bucharest.

I am interested in the most cost efficient, fastest and most problem free route. Am I asking too much? I did read about a night train which I'd would prefer not to take.

Any and all info would be much appreciated.

You should be able to get the train timetables at www.bahn.de, using the spellings Ruse and Bucuresti. This shows a train from Ruse at 15.00 arriving Bucharest 17.09. So one option would be to do the whole thing by training leaving Varna at 08.50 and arriving in Ruse at 12.35 as you said.

If you want to look into buses, there is a timetable for Varna-Ruse (in Bulgarian) at http://www.avtogari.info/most_wanted.php , it's about 30 rows down. It looks like there are direct buses at 07.30 and 10.00 as well as as some later ones that probably don't suit you. They take about 3.5 hours.

Finally buses from Ruse to Bucuresti, www.autogari.ro suggests that there are six daily run by two different companies, the last being at 14.30.

Travel Tips for Varna

Swarm of storchs

by desert_princess

I am actually not sure they were storchs but they looked like it. They migrate in endless lines that travel over your head at least for some time . The funny thing was that they were weaving without any particular direction or rather in a spyral , probably due to the winds , but somehow still managed to stay together. Than left

Modern Rail Station. Varna

Travelling by train in Bulgaria is reasonably comfortable and very cheap , at times it is slow.I travelled from Varna to Plovdiv, a cross country journey, 09.13 arrived 15.43, but the fare was 18 Lev [ £6.25p ] first class. A tip is reseach your trips before you leave home, because the timetables are in cyrilic script, and the ticket and information office ladies don"t speak or understand english. To find your platform number will be by departure time.

Bungy Jumping Madness

I threw myself from a bridge in Varna 55m up and was screaming all the way down.
Speak to the guys at Flag Hostel as they can arrange and if there are other people interested can bring the price down.

If you're interested in boats, the Naval Museum is the place to visit. It houses a collection of various items connected to the history of Bulgaria's navy aswell as some boats which are displayed in the park outside the museum.
The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm. Admission is 4BGN

"Nice place to do a bit of business"

I travelled to Varna for business in mid-November. It was just a four-night trip and I was working for three full days, but still it was a nice excursion.

My hotel was good, food was cheap and tasty, beer was refreshing and wonderfully priced, and people were friendly and helpful.

There's no point talking about my work there, so I'll just comment on the concerns that matter to fellow visitors. I had free time at nights and on my final day.
