DSF is held annually for the past 55 years. It is very important part of Dubrovnik tradition. The festival brings many music, theatre and folklore events. It is very important to see at least one play/concert if you are in Dubrovnik between July 10th and August the 25th!

Poklad of Lastovo
The unique event in the world, where on Poklad's Tuesday, the Poklad puppet is sliding down the 300 meters long rope (three times), with simultaneous petards' detonations going on under his boots.
The ancient traditional story says that Poklad Carnival Festival is celebrated as a memory of an old historical event. Catalonian pirates attacked near by island of Korèula and sent a messenger to the island of Lastovo, with a request to surrender. Instead, Lastovo people took weapons, women took their children and went as pilgrims to Saint Jure's church praying for help. And sure enough, the help came as a storm which destroyed the Catalonian fleet. After that, the Lastovo people took the messenger and put him on the donkey through the village to laugh at him, then he was let down the rope and finally burnt.
Poklad Carnival Festival on the island of Lastovo is very special and unforgettable.
Heading into Lapad
by Venturingnow
One of the most interesting parts of my trip to Dubrovnik was staying in the community of Lapad. This isn't a tourist destination, it doesn't have any sights, but instead, experiences. Talking, eating, and shopping with the locals, hearing their stories of the war and their lives, was the best part of Croatia.

MOLUNAT - village on the most southern tip of Croatia. From Dubrovnik take Cavtat road and then go further till you see sign for Molunat. It's a tiny and sleepy village with nice nature and a little sandy beach. Go there to get away from all those people in Dubrovnik.
Bus to Dubrovnik

I took a bus from Ljubljana. It was about a 12 hour ride with stops including the Croatian border and Rijeka with a change in Split. From anywhere in Croatia it is easy to find your way to Dubrovnik by bus.
