seafront accommodation

by har72

My partner and I are going to Dubrovnik in July. I am desperatly looking for a nice apartment or aparthotel beside the water. I don't mind if its not in Dubrovnik itself. Any ideas?

Re: seafront accommodation

Waterside apartments are at a premium in Dalmatia and July is peak holiday time. The area is very popular through July (particularly with Italians who have long considered Croatia their summer playground) and many people book the same apartment from year to year. What I am saying is, you are probably going to have to trawl through a lot of accommodation websites and be prepared to send off several enquiries before you find something that suits and you may well have to compromise when it comes to that waterside location.

Here's somewhere to start looking

Try Cavtat, about 20 km south of DU. It's an easy half hour bus ride into DU and buses run frequently from about 5am until well past midnight.

You can find great and cheap accomodation on:
http://www.apartma-on.net/en/search.html?calledByModule=mod_jomsearch_m0&town=dubrovnik
There are also ideas for trips, and advices, what is worth to see. But, Cavtat isn't bad desition too, you have bus every half hour to Dubrovnik, and taxi boats, it a really great kind of transfer.

Travel Tips for Dubrovnik

Stradun

by OttoMarzo

The Stradun is the main Dubrovnik's street. It is inside the walls of the ancient city and you can find many shops, bars, cafe, restaurants and so on. It is full of tourists and it's absolutely lovely.

Vrata Pile

by croisbeauty

Vrata Pile, the Pile Gate, has been the main entrance to the town for centuries. The name came from Greek Pyle, which means the gate. The present look of the gate dates from 1537 when the outer semi-circular tower was built. The gate is adorned with a Renaissance arch and the statue of Sv. Vlaho (St. Blasius), set in a richly decorated niche. The first stone bridge, in approaching to the gate, was built in 1397 by Giovanni da Siena., while the later was built from the drawnings of great local architect Paskoje Milièeviæ.
The inner gate, in Gothic style, was built in 1460 at the same place where the oldest gate had stood.

Sunscreen or burn

by Venturingnow

You better have your sunscreen because you're gonna get toasted in Dubrovnik. It doesn't matter if you don't go to the beach, the sun is really strong here, be careful. Lots of polarizers A pad and towel for the rocks on the 'beaches'

Lokrum Island

by JLBG

Lokrum Island is close to Dubrovnik and easy to reach by boat but it is an entirely different world, with entirely different visitors. Boats leave from the old port every 30 minutes and bring you to Lokrum Island in 10 minutes. It is perfect for a day trip.

'mighty craic???'

by this_is_ridick about Pub Karaka (Irish Pub)

Visit this bar to discover everything you came to eastern europe to escape. Similar in nature to the dentist's as no enjoyment is experienced until departure and most of the stay is painful. Packed with over-enthusiastic irish wannabes no immersion in croatian culture is ensured. A definate must for middle aged italian gentlemen looking for love, beer-goggled irish girls guaranteed... perhaps something of the green variety
