 | Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik: 5 star style

A spacious, comfortable room decorated in warm tones of soft terracotta and sage green that complemented the view from the window (we looked out to the hillls behind Dubrovnik, not the sea) was just one of the pleasures of staying at the Imperial Palace. Courteous and helpful staff, our hire car pickup and drop-off from the hotel, gorgeous views of the city walls from the main terrace, a lavish breakfast eaten outdoors on a garden terrace all added to the amenities. All this and a brilliant location, just two minutes walk from the Pile gate entrance into the old city made our September 2008 stay something we'd be more than happy to repeat.
There are only two hotels operating within the walls of Dubrovnik's Old City - the Hotel Stari Grad and the Hotel Pucic, with just 27 rooms between them. The next best thing ( for anyone considering staying in a 5* hotel) has to be the newly refurbished Dubrovnik Hilton Imperial. The location couldn't be better, the Pile Gate entrance to the Old City is no more than a 100 metre walk. The 19th century building started its life as a nobleman's palace before being converted into a hotel in the years before WWI (Dubrovnik was a top tourist destination even then). The refurbishment has recreated all the elegance and style of those imperial days, plus introduced the facilities expected of a modern 5*hotel - indoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness room, high speed internet, business centre, air conditioning, etc, etc.
