Our truly helpful waitress might well have been the Hotel Manager, such was her interest in telling us about the Hotel. She asked if we would like a guided tour and of course we jumped at the opportunity.
The Hotel is situated in an original Palace. It has been lovingly renovated with intimate attention to the highest five star de luxe standards. Indeed, it is the only five star property within the walls of the old towm.
We were shown the most stunning suite of all. It is full of wooden ceiling that disappear into windowed peaks. As you enter a huge cowhide chair stands before you. Above this, on a raised podium, stands a small dining table and chairs which are lit with a graduated strand of coloured lights.
A gracious sitting room in shades of cream adorns another podium and the lucious snowy coloured sofa lures you into its snug depths.
The bedroom houses one of the most enormous beds I have ever seen and the room has a window onto the luxurious bathroom, with its free standing whirlpool tub. This was graced with Bulgari toiletries and I found myself immediately requesting the room rate. If I had not been heading home the following day I probably would have transferred here. It's bewitching.
There is a tiny chapel on the roof of this hotel where the terrace outside looks down on the streets below. Amazing.
