A splendid sea-view hotel
Room is clean and functional. Its a bit old hotel but has good facilities and good restaurant. Good service and humorous staff.
Unique Quality: astonishing Sea-view, swimming pool, Sauna, fitness center. Breakfast included and good.

great location and friendly staff
we was a bit unsure of the hotel because we had read 2 bad reviews....
but the staff was great and helpful
the location was great
the food was great
room was clean
this year it was still a 3 star hotel i still thought it should have more stars
next year it will be upgraded to a 5 star hotel
Unique Quality: the staff helped us so much
cheered up the childred
answered our many silly question
baked special bread for me ( because of food intolerance)
the pool was great and it also had small cars for the kids that they loved when not beeing in the pool
the beach was just outside the hotel
there was no cars only a pedestrian street with cafees , restaurants and at the end a local shoping center/mall
there was a mix of locals and tourist
the wiew form the balcony was super

Don't stay here!
This was the second worst hotel we have ever stayed in and we travel extensively for work and play. This hotel is located opposite a beach bar which has loud music that starts at 9am and goes on into the night. All the seaview rooms that you pay a premium for (and which we stayed in) overlook the bar, the restaurant (with constant smells) and pool. These rooms are also above the 'entertainment area' which is where they play very loud, cheesy live music EVERY night from 8ish onwards. The rooms have patio doors to the balconies that are not secured properly so through my earplugs, head under pillows ...I could still tell you what Eagles/Beatles/sad 70's song the group was playing. The rooms are very basic but clean, the food is fine but the service varies depending on where you sit or who you are dealing with. The view from these rooms is fabulous..if you are high enough to see the bay, we had to change rooms because they tried to fob us off with a pool view room for just under £1,000 for 8 nights..value for money? definately not, would we stay here again? absolutely, definately not!! save your money and stay in any other Lapad Penninsular hotel..the view is fabulous and you won't have the dreadful noise or smells we had to put up with. And a tip for Dubrovnik in general: if your idea of an ideal holiday is smoking, drinking and subathing, you will love it
Unique Quality: The indoor pool had no water in it, the gym is closed in the afternoons, the piano has no player and the piano bar was never open...the only redeeming quality to this hotel was the lady who works in the outdoor pool area...she was fast, efficient and friendly at all times.

HOTEL KOMPAS 3*
114 rooms, including suites, most offering spectacular views of Bay of Lapad. All rooms have shower or bath, WC, hairdryer, direct dialing telephone line,remote control SAT TV, minibar, central heating and cooling in 25% rooms and 85% with air-condition system. There is a posibility of hiring a PC with standard configuration on request.
54 rooms have balcony and sea view. Other 60 rooms are with park view and suitable for more than 2 persons.
Unique Quality: Recreation: on-site facilities include indoor pool with sauna, massage and a trim cabinet beside it. Outdoor swimming pool also available. Dancing music every night during summer time. Game saloon with table tennis available. Nearby tennis courts. Water sports (rent-a-boat, pedalo, canu, paraglissing and diving club) in front of the hotel. Rent-a-bike also available. Other: souvenir shop, rent-a-cae & scooter, an exchange office and own parking space available. Nearby beauty saloon and hairdresser.

Hotel Kompas
We'll be staying in Hotel Kompas for a week in the end of May with our 5-yr-old dd. I guess the sea is still too cold for swimming but I wonder if anyone knows what the two small swimming-pools of Hotel Kompas are like?
I'd also be grateful if anyone could tell me if there are any playgrounds or other activities for children in the Lapad area or in the Old Town of Dubrovnik. Is the aquarium worth seeing at all? I suppose there is a lot to see for a 5-yr-old in the museums but it would be a lot easier if she could run and climb somewhere too!

In that case you might considere the option to stay at Cavtat, which is only 20 km south of Dubrovnik. Hotel Albatros is very good choice. There are daily boat lines and tours from Cavtat to Dubrovnik, or you can take the local bus.
When I was a boy, we used to open the swiming season at First of May, the temperature of the water at that time is around 18 C degrees, which is still too cold. At the end of May it rises up to approx. 22-24 C degrees, and that is good enough for swiming. However, do not go in the deep water (especially with the kid) coz it will be still too cold for swiming.

Dubrovnik Aquarium is a pretty interesting place although the signs don't tell you a lot. It's got an interesting atmosphere, the building it's in is pretty old. It's pretty cheap too so if you like aquariums generally it's worth a look.
