Affordable accommodation in Lapad
We rented one of the two units at Apartment Mare in Lapad. The apartment was very nice, large enough for 4 adults. It consisted of 2 bedrooms, one with twin beds, the other one with double bed, a large bathroom and a kitchen/dining room area with TV. It also has a beautiful large balcony equiped with a table and 4 chairs overlooking the Adriatic. The view is absolutely superb (we had dinner on the terrace almost every night... certainly one of the best view in town). The apartment was very clean and had all the amenities you would expect for self-catering. The owners live downstair, and are very nice. They will make sure everything is fine and will help you whenever you need it. For example, on the day we left, our taxi never showed up to get us to the bus station. The owners had a feeling this could happen so they left their coordinates at work. When we contacted them, they actually came back to pick us up and brought us to the station... That is just showing how hospitable these people are, and we soon discovered that it was the same all across Croatia. Highly recommend. The apartment is situated in Lapad, on a narrow street heading straight to the sea. The apartment is at the end of the street (where the street becomes a staircase), thus offering a magnificient view of the sea. It is right beside the 5 stars hotel Libertas, and merely 5 minute walking from the beautiful 5 stars hotel Bellevue (where you can be picked up for excursions booked through Atlas - the staff at Bellevue are wonderful and helped us a lot when one of our excursion was cancelled on us and they contacted the company for us). You can reach the old town in about 15 minutes walking, or you can take the bus to get there. The walk to the old town is gorgeous as you are always by the sea, and the views are incredible. In about the same amount of time, you can reach the Gruz area on the other side, where you can see the port of Dubrovnik. Close to the apartment are two mini markets selling all you need to cook meal at home. The Bellevue hotel has a wonderful restaurant serving high quality food, however it is somewhat expensive (consider $40US to $50US just for the main meal).
