Accommodation suggestions for Dubrovnik & Hvar

by indurango

Hi everyone,

I will be visiting Dubrovnik in late August for 3 days.
Can anyone give any ideas for hotel or pension in Dubrovnik?

I am looking for a budget accommodation below 50 Euros.
No need to be in the center old town but
Heard about the sobes in some VT forums but have no idea how to find information about them.

Many thanks
Enis

"Sobes" is rooms and refers to private accommodation. It's usually about 30-40 Euros pppn. In my opinion, the Lapad area (around Lapad bay; you have the beach there, the supermarket, bars, etc. and a local bus goes very often to the Old Town (15 min by bus; approx 30min on foot)) is really good. You can see what they have on the net, check: www.dubrovnik-online.com/english/private_accommodation.php or if everything seems to be booked- it actually never is as everyone who has a spare room lets it in the summer and getting there and finding a room shouldn't actually be a problem, especially at the end of August.

I too am looking for private accommodation in Dubrovnik. But I will be there for four nights in early September and my budget is VERY slim. I would like to be semi-centrally located relative to the different ports, the old city, supermarkets, etc. I am also looking for a place with kitchen facilities. Any suggestions for places like this under 20-30 euro per person per night?? I've seen a lot of places under 20USD that are within 20 minutes from the old city, but they don't offer a kitchen.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Travel Tips for Dubrovnik

Cafe society in Dubrovnik

by travelmad478

Like pretty much everywhere else in Croatia, Dubrovnik presents endless wonderful opportunities to sit at outdoor cafes and enjoy the world passing by. We took in a few glasses of Croatian wine and lovely sunset at one of the sidewalk cafes in the old city's Placa. The clock tower at one end can be seen in the background.

Cafe culture

by acemj

Cafes are huge in Croatia and there's no place better than in Dubrovnik. Even in February when the weather was a bit nippy, the outdoor seating at the Old Town cafes were fairly full. You don't ever feel rushed by the waiters and waitresses. Just pull up a chair, grab a drink and a small snack and enjoy the atmosphere. If you don't, everyone will know you're a tourist.

Old City of Dubrovnik - Off the beaten path

by blanter

Areas in the South of the Old City (still within the Wall), Strosmajerova and uphill, are not crowded and there are actually people living there. Usually you have to take stairs to get there. It is a good place to take a break from the crowds. See my travelogue for several pictures.

The islet of St. Mary

by croisbeauty

The islet of St. Mary is situated in the Big Lake, inside the National Park, and it is its the most attractive part. There is a beautiful Benedictine monastery, on the islet, built by monks of the Appian order from the Mount of Gargano in Appulia, Italy. The marked walking paths lead you you all around the islet, offering stunning views and undisturbed silince.

Boats, plains and buses

by midnight_mike

Aer Lingus and British Airways are a few of the major companies offering direct flights to Dubrovnik during the warmer months. Croatian Air offers direct flights year-round from Zagreb.

There are ferries linking Dubrovnik with Italy. By land, there are direct buses from Zagreb and Sarajevo. Traveling by bus from Zagreb via Split is not a great option, however, as the winding coastal road is time consuming and uncomfortable. Every 30 seconds you are jolted from your seat as the bus negotiates another curve. If you are not coming from Italy or flying, my advice is to take a train or bus to Split. Once there, catch a ferry to Dubrovnik. Your back will thank you and you will be exposed to some beautiful scenery.
