Bus or train to Rijeka

by bochini

Hi, I'll be in Krka national Park in July and after a day there plan to continue my trip to Krk island. I think that the best way is to travel from Sbenik to Rijeka and then catch a bus to Krk. But how should I go to Rijeka? Are there train and buses? How long does the trip take? How much should I pay for those tickets? There is the chance to make an overnight trip? Somebody knows how to get a timetable for buses or trains from Sibenik to Rijeka?

Take the bus.

Could find no Sibenik bus station online, but bus station in Split list more thab 10 daily departures from Split to Rijeka (goes through Sibenik). Few of them are overnight.

Sibenik-Rijeka will last about 5 and a half hrs, buses take 2lane coastal road via Zadar.

From Rijeka to Krk take a bus.

Thanks! Any idea how much could it be the bus ticket? We'll be two and were thinkig that perhaps it would be more convinient to rent a car but I do not know how easy is to find a rental car agency that does not charge an exhorbitant extra for hiring a car in Sibenik and drop it off in Rijeka.

Huhm, Sibenik to Rijeka...

I'd say approx 15 euros (for 1 person, 1 way).

Church for identification

by JLBG

I have been unable to identify this church. I do not feel it is Sveti Frane (San Francesco) as, as far as I remember, it is a little up-hill to the old city. If I am not wrong, it stands between Ulica Ante Starcevica and ulica Stjepane Radica and on the different maps I have looked at, it has no name, which should mean it has no interest !.

However, if it is true that the bell tower has nothing special (first photo), it has a side entrance (second photo) with on top (enlarged on the third photo) a bearded man with the right arm raised (blessing the people ?) while in the left hand, it holds two huge keys. Leyle (VT The WanderingCamel), because of the keys, identifies him as Saint Peter. Thank you Leyle for your contribution!

The fourth photo shows in a niche a young man clad in a medieval garment, holding a (broken) spear in his right hand while he bears a stone with a Malta cross in his left hand. On the right, a snake is certainly trying some evil doing ! This is why it is here, isn't it ?

I suppose it is one of the following : St. John's church, St. Krsevan's church, St. Lovre's church and monastery, The New church, St Grgur's church, St Frane's monastery and church, St. Nikola's church, St. Dominic's church, The church of Uspanie Bogomatere, The church of Holy Ghost, St Barbara's church. But which one is it ?

Entrance with coat of arm

by JLBG

In a side street, the attention of the photographer was caught by the entrance shown on the photo. There was not enough room to shoot the whole doorway and I took the most interesting part, the top. There is a coat of arm with an oblique stripe and two flowers (roses ?), one on each side of the stripe. I will try to identify it.

You certainly must take a boat...

by dubrovnik

You certainly must take a boat to the island of Visovac, which is also a part of Krka National Park. There is a green park in a blue lake, just over 1 hectare of area, with a church and monastery whose beginnings go back to the 14th century. The monastery houses a rich museum and art collection (including 620 turkish documents!). Twice a year , on 2nd and 15th August is a pilgrimage center .
