Hotel Jakov, Solaris Resort

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 7, 2013

At the end of August 2012 we stayed for 2 nights in the Hotel Jakov in the Solaris Resort which was located just a few kilometers from Sibenik itself.

The Hotel Jakov is the cheapest of the the Solaris Hotels and the only 3 star one. We booked the room on booking.com with half-board which was buffet style. We paid 832.50 Kuna per night with half-board. We had room no. 343 near the elevator. Ask for a room away from the elevator as it's quite noisy.

Our room was small, everything was clean, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer in such a small room as there was nowhere to hang anything apart from the tiny wardrobe. The Jakov has no balconies! and therefore when you want to hang wet swimming gear you of the window you need to be super careful.

There was a small TV but no wifi. Wifi is only available in the lobby for a charge. There are a couple of internet terminals in the lobby for free but they were constantly occupied.

The restaurant with the buffet style meals was very big and loud. There was a balcony around the restaurant, so we always opted for a table there. The breakfast was nice enough and the dinner was average mass food production where everyone will find something to his or her liking.

The hotel was packed with French all inclusive package tourists. So when you wanted a drink with your dinner, you needed to find the appropriate waitress and pay straight away.

The whole resort is well laid out and various attractions and nice promenades for walks. There are various beaches and each hotel has its outdoor swimming pool. There is also a minigolf (fee applies) and cafes are available with ice cream.

To the back of the resort there is a huge campsite where half of Europe meets. Hidden away in the campground you will find a supermarket.

Personally, I found it interesting to spend a day in such a place but it was definitely not my cup of tea.

We were some of the odd guests that arrived by the infrequent public bus from Sibenik bus station (ticket price 17 Kuna). When leaving the resort we couldn't be bothered waiting for the bus and shared a taxi into town.

My family and me were in Hotel Jakov last summer in August. It was our first time in Croatia and this was one of our best vacations ever. Country is very beuatiful, especially small towns on the coast. Hotel was very clean, with friendly staff and the beach is only 50 meters from the hotel. We were there for 7 days so we had a lot of time to discover various facilities in the resort - wellness, pools, restaurants,... We took a trip to nearby town Sibenik and were amazed by the its beauty, especially the old part of the town. We had a great time and we are surely coming back this year.

Unique Quality: clean rooms, friendly staff, live music every night, clean sea and nice beaches, wellness center, sports
